How to Host a Homemade Lord of the Rings Party for Kids
Do it Yourself Ideas for a Lord of the Rings Children’s Party
Do your kids love The Lord of the Rings? Putting together a Lord of the Rings themed children's party can be simple and easy and also inexpensive. Here are some ideas for throwing a do it yourself Lord of the Rings party for kids.
Treats: Destroy the Ring by Fire
- Buy pre-packaged mini donuts - the rings.
- Buy milk and dye it orange - the fire.
- Destroy the rings by fire. Dunk and eat the donuts.
Game: Hobbit Relay Race
- Find large shoes. Old shoes or thrift store shoes will work great.
- Cover the shoes in felt, fabric or craft fur.
- Make the obstacle courses. Tape construction paper trees to chairs for an enchanted forest or drape chairs in sheets to represent mountains.
- Explain the relay race to the children. The child puts on the furry and large hobbit-like "feet" and hurries around obstacles to return to the starting point. The child then takes off the "feet" and passes them to the next child who in turn repeats the race.
- Divide in teams or time each child. If you prefer, do it just for fun with no teams and no keeping track of times.
Party Favor: Ring on Chain
- Buy a bag of inexpensive rings - even wedding party favors, whatever is cheap.
- Buy gold cord from a fabric or craft store.
- String the rings onto the gold cording.
- Tie the ends of the cords in a knot to secure the ring on the chain.
- Make the party favors ahead of time or let the children make them at the party as a craft activity.
Invitations: King's Crown
- Gather construction paper and scissors for your child to make their own invitations.
- Cut a simple crown out of construction paper. Zigzag with scissors cutting up and down near the top edge of the paper, making the triangular points of a crown.
- Print out the details of the party. Fit several to a page so they are sized right to fit on the crown.
- Cut the details sheet apart and paste a set of details on each crown.
- Staple the ends of the crown together so the crown becomes circular.
Tips
Kids like to be involved. Letting them help plan and make choices and perhaps even sample treats ahead of time can help them stay excited while they wait for the party day to arrive.
Warnings
Watch out on the relay race that you adjust the level of difficulty or speed of racing to your guests' abilities. True, hobbits may have large feet but we do not want them to have tripping injuries.
