How to Host Movie Night at Home

Sometimes, there are nights I just want to stay in and watch a good movie with my boyfriend. Instead of spending $20 at the movie theatre, I would much rather stay in, rent a movie and eat my own snacks for free. Sound appealing? Here's how to do it.

First, visit your local video store or browse through your On Demand movie selections (if you have it through your cable company) to find one or two movies to rent. Think about what kind of mood you are in that night, whether it's comedy, action, horror or romance. Maybe you could rent one movie from 2 different categories to mix it up a little. My favorite categories to choose from are action and comedy, because both of us can always find a movie we can agree on. Some of my favorites include Live Free or Die Hard, Are We Done Yet, Rocky Balboa and National Treasure 2. Of course, pick the movies within your particular tastes.

Next, stop at the store and pick up some snacks, if you don't already have some at home. Popcorn, gummy worms, Twizzlers, potato chips are among some of my favorite snacks for movie night. Even pizza or hoagies would be a nice idea. Keep it simple, but buy whatever you like. Also, don't forget the beverages.

Once you've decided on movies and snacks, prepare the room you are going to be in. Bring blankets and pillows, and change into comfortable clothes or pajamas. I think this is the best way to relax and watch movies. However, it's sometimes hard not to fall asleep.

In my opinion, watching good flicks at home is much better. Not only is it cheaper, but it's also quieter and more private. In the comfort of your own home, you don't have to worry about people talking around you, cell phones ringing, or heads in the way of your view. You can put your feet up without worrying about hitting the people in front of you.

If you can wait to see a new film until it comes out on DVD, then movie nights at home might be a great idea for you. It's a fun, inexpensive way to spend time with your significant other. Movie nights would also be great with a group of friends as well. Save the trips to the movie theatre for special occasions, and you'll be sure to save money as well.
