Things you'll need for decoration's.
Flags come in many shapes and colors but just imagine a race track. They have so many hundreds of flags there. You can select black and white checked ones or get several in different colors from red, white or greens or blues or oranges. You can get flags at dollar stores or Party City or try ordering from www.partycheap.com they have many there.
You may also want to either purchase the plastic helmets for the kids to wear during their games or you may want to try and make them. You can buy them at partycheap.com as well. You need to buy plastic plates, cups, napkins and silver wear for the party. If you can't find race car themed items mix it up and use black and white.
Buy many packages of balloons and use in corners of house or area outside if you are having the party outside. Colorful balloons will add an extra flair to any party. Get a tape cassette and make a tape with loud engines revving up or car noises. Play this during party to get everyone excited.
Setting up your party area makes a party. So purchase a pack of cheap miniature metal cars and place on a sheet cake for extra excitement or set around the table as a decoration. You'll also want to buy some cardboard and markers or paint.
Decorate the yard or home with the cardboard. Take and cut out signs such as yield or stop signs or signs that say go or slow down or nearing the end and place them around the party area. Find pictures of other racers and cut out their faces and put on cardboard and use for decorations.
Food:
Serve something easy such as miniature hamburgers or hot dogs. Use small brown lunch bags and make a large amount of pop corn for the kids and pour it in the bags. If you want to get real creative try making a cake and use other food items for decorating. You could add oreos for the tires etc.
Games:
Get a few empty oil cans with nozzle on them and have kids line up at start line and then have them race with water in a spoon and see who can fill up their can first. This way they are working on a team. Or set up a whole racing team with different stations. Use cardboard and make fake cars and have the kids race to the different stations.
Place a kid's race track on the table for the gifts for an added piece of decorations. Use stickers and small cars and mini key chains for the take home gifts in the goody bags. Another great site to find plastic oil cans for props is www.racepartydecorations.com. You'll get 4 for 3.59.
Cut out some card board signs with cute sayings and place on walls of the party area. Signs stating Finish Line or Victory Avenue will be well noticed. You can also find black rope that's thick and use it on the card board cut out cars as the nets in the windows that hold you in.
You may also only want to make one cool race car with a few boxes. Paint it and add all touches and have each kid sit in the car and have their photo taken. Give each child their photo to go home with them would also be awesome.
