How to Host a New Year's Eve Party

John Vann
As the Holiday season draws near, and the end of the year starts closing in, many people begin planning their New Year's Eve parties and celebrations. Party favors are to be bought for, decorations, beer, liquor and other beverages all need to be planned out and purchased, as does the food, too. And there is even more left for you to plan once you've got all this figured out, too. Indeed, there is a lot of work, time, and effort that goes into planning any party - especially one to celebrate the New Year. But here are a few tips to keep in mind, and hopefully help make your New Year's Eve party planning go by a little bit smoother.

First of all, keep your guest's safety in mind. Always have designed drivers at the party who are able to provide rides - if this is not an option, have the number of the local taxi company ready. If there are going to be adults drinking at your house on New Year's Eve remember - it is your responsibility to make sure they do not drive while drunk. Not only will they end up spending the first hours of the New Year locked up in jail, they could even kill themselves or somebody else. And there is just no need to take that chance.

Next, make sure to provide an adequate selection of non-alcoholic drinks, as well. Because you should have designed drivers in attendance, you'll need something to keep them occupied, as well. Virgin drinks are a good alternative, as is non-alcoholic beer.

You will also want to make sure you have plenty of food and snacks on hand, too. Typically, there is a lot of alcohol consumption that goes on at New Year's Eve parties, and sooner or later your guests are going to get hungry. Some party hosts offer fully prepared meals, while some may opt for a pizza or even a selection of snack foods.

Also, you'll want to take into consideration the music selection you are planning for your party. Keep in mind the tastes of others, and try to cater to them as much as possible. You may even want to ask some of your guests to bring their own music, as well.

Finally, and perhaps the most important part of all - don't miss midnight! Many people like to watch the New Year's ball drop on television, though if you are at a party this is not always a viable option. Still, people will want to be informed a couple minutes before the clock strikes midnight, so they can better ring in the New Year right.
