Tip #1 Manager receptions are not dinner/supper. They are snacks or appetizers. Don't make a pig out of yourself, they are just talking about you in the back office about how you are eating up everyone else's snacks.
Tip#2 So you're a member of a loyalty program, That's great! you deserve to be treated great, but don't make a butt out of yourself. We can still give you the crappiest room in the building and tell you it's our best. Giving you a loyalty card doesn't give you a right to be a jerk.
Tip#3 Sometimes we don't always get what we want in life. Blow it off and realize there is more to life then getting that first floor room. There are people who have made reservations before you! So if we don't have that first floor room available, we are not lying to you. Be careful how you treat us, You can land yourself with boogies on your key card!
Tip#4 Always ask to see a room before you rent it, if you have never stayed at a certain hotel. Just because one hotel in that brand is good doesn't mean they all are. Remember they are mostly all franchised, which mean different owners who usually are too cheap for their own good.
Tip#5 Please tip your housekeepers when you leave. This is very hard work and they are only paid usually min. wage. So next time think about that housekeeper cleaning up vomit, feces and someone Else's body hair from the shower.
Tip#6 if you are wanting a cheap room, you're going to get cheap service. Crappy room, non-friendly service and most likely a really cold breakfast. So if you don't want the extra perks, then go to the fleabag hotel. You get what you pay for!
Tip#7 If no one is at the counter when you check in, please don't tap, knock or yell. We know you are there. We don't purposely ignore you. Sometime we do have to eat, drink or even pee and there is only one of us usually. Unless you're at a fancy hotel, forget it. Mid chains have owners that don't want to hire the extra help. Learn to have patients. If you don't learn, the desk clerks will ignore you on purpose to help you learn it.
Tip #8 If Your are a jerk, don't be surprised that your rate is high. No one is going to offer you a discount with an attitude problem.
Tip #9 If you come down to breakfast in your pajamas don't be surprised if you get frowned upon. Not only is it unpleasant to the other guest but the employees as well. Oh and by the way. There is nothing worse then coming down barefoot. For your safety and possibly the safety of our fragile noses.
Tip#10 Don't wait until 5 Minutes till closing time to come down for breakfast. even though we are there to please you, we still have a deadline to meet as well.
So the next time you sent on a business trip or enjoying a little leisure time, be good to he person behind the counter. Your room could depend on it.

Post a CommentWow - these are awesome tips! I've also been a desk clerk for years & couldn't have put it better myself! I wish that everyone that stays at a hotel would read this & follow these "common sense" tips/guidelines! The more patience & respect you show others, usually results to more friendliness & respect shown back to you. I hope others share this & pass it around as well!
