Home is where the heart is. At the end of a long day, you would always want to go home. Unfortunately, not everyone is blest with a sprawling lawn or an acre-wide living room. In the real world, our homes are usually packed with furniture, books, kids toys everywhere, and other house items that can simply crowd your living spaces. If you want to make your area stretch out a bit, you can make some adjustments on your decorations and furniture without moving any walls. Just the right mix of colors, furniture setup and some interesting lighting, your house will stretch out just the way you like it.

1. Clean up. Too much stuff just lying around your place makes the room small. Make sure that your things that are neatly arranged and out of sight. For example in the kitchen, you might want to make the dining table look as small as possible. This will make the room look bigger as there is more view for space. If you have a China cabinet, display only a few pieces. Do not fill it up. Overcrowding will overshadow you room. Decorate simply. The kitchen counter must also be cleared off as much as possible. This means that the coffee maker, mixer, toaster and blender be out all at the same time.

2. Open the way. A room will definitely look cramped if you have furniture and accessories blocking your view into the room and out to open spaces. If you have a heavy rug on the floor, get rid of it to create an illusion of more floor space. Another way is to take the farthest corner and put something that will draw attention to the eyes of the watcher. Maybe you can position your couch somewhere else and not on the furthest corner of your room, so that the couch will not be the first thing that you will see and it will not block your view into the room. You may put a lamp or a piece of art. This will draw the viewer's attention and immediately taking the size of the room.

3. Choose soft and light colors. Choose colors that are light and cool like soft tones of blues and greens. For example, in the bedroom, use neutral colors on the wall and on the bed. Try to get rid of those busy wallpapers. This will make the room smaller. Get new bedding in light colors. You may also want to use throw pillows in the bed. Also, try to choose colors that ate monochromatic or in the same color family.

4. Let in the Light. Whether it is by natural light or artificial light, rooms will definitely larger if it is well-lit. so, get rid of draperies and open up the windows and let the light of the outdoors get in to the house. You might also want to add more lamps or install track lighting or recessed lighting.
