How to Do Housechores Without Consuming Weekends?

Nisha Danny
Everyone likes to spend their weekends with family, when everyone is at home. Organizing house chores on weekdays without dragging it to weekends would add more time for everyone on weekends. How can you avoid doing house chores on weekends? Here are some practical tips:

- Laundry: Do not allow the laundry to pile up. Try to wash the laundry every few days. Try washing all light colored clothes in one cycle and the dark colored clothes in another cycle. If you prefer to hand wash clothes from which color runs out, do it without postponing it to the next day. It will be better to wash it, the same day you wear them. Use a dryer to dry out clothes soon after the washing cycle. If you prefer to air dry the clothes, it is best to seek help from family members. More people to help you, means finishing the chore in less time. It is best to get your children to help you.

- Cleaning: Vacuuming the house and moping consumes some time and it is most likely to be done on weekends. It is better to set a plan to finish the cleaning work during week days. Vacuum and mop the bedrooms one day and the other rooms the subsequent day. It is better to set each day of the week to finish cleaning work in small portions. Dividing the chore into small portion could make your job easier and less tiring.

Clearing up the clutter takes time in most homes. It is better to set two separate bins, one for the household waste and other for recycling waste. Ask the family members to dispose the recycling waste items in the bin provided soon after use. It could be batteries, plastic bottles, old pens, clothes and so on. Sorting out the waste and disposing appropriately reduces the time required for clearing up the clutter. Then it is better to dispose in the community trash can while going outdoors for a walk.

In case of splashes and hand prints on windows and other furniture, it is best to clean up as soon as you find it dirty. It consumes less time to take a tissue and a cleaner to wipe away the dirt than to wait for a mass clean up.

Cleaning the kitchen consumes more time and it is better to set one day of the week for cleaning the kitchen alone. All other days, using a cloth to wipe away the dirt after cooking would suffice. Use soap, cloth and brush to clean the Kitchen hob and hood. Keep a cloth to wipe away oil and dirt from kitchen cabinets. Finally sweep and mop the floor. Throw away waste and unused food soon after you find them and clean the vessels. Do not cause them to pile up to be cleaned for weekends. If you are unable to clean the kitchen and maintain in perfect condition, it is better to seek external help from cleaners at least once every fortnight.

- Ironing: Ironing the clothes in small portions take lesser time and it can be less tiring as well. Set about half an hour every morning or evening on weekdays to finish the ironing. Usually it is better to iron the clothes after folding the laundry. Get the help of family members to sort out clothes and fold the laundry. It is best to make use of family TV viewing time to do this chore.

- Cooking: I have heard the idea of cooking food for the entire week. It not only consumes more time on weekends, but would cause you to eat the less nutritious food for the following week. Instead, it is best to allot cooking time either morning or evening for an hour or two every day depending on your work schedule. Browse for quick and easy recipes and jot it down before cooking. It would add variety and add your interest in cooking and eating your cooked meal.

- Grocery shopping: Make a list of items you require and do the shopping while heading home after work.

Follow the simple tips and enjoy the weekends with your family!
