How to Get Your Husband to Dance with You at a Wedding

Lisa Riggs
We've all seen it. Groups of women dancing together at weddings having the time of their lives, while the husbands stand around, with drinks in hand, looking on. Men are sometimes very reluctant to step outside of their comfort zone and take part in the fun of dancing at a wedding. If you are tired of dancing with your cousins and uncles at family weddings and would really love to twirl around the dance floor with your husband at the next family wedding, read this article for tips on increasing his confidence and making him a willing and enthusiastic dance partner.

How to Get Your Husband to Dance with You At A Wedding: Dance Lessons. Many men are reluctant to put their dancing moves on display at a family wedding due to their lack of knowledge of dance steps. The upcoming Christmas holiday is the perfect time to present your husband with a gift certificate for dance lessons by a certified dance instructor. Not only will this teach both of you new skills and increase his confidence in dancing in public, is also a wonderful way for the two of you to spend some quality time together in a fun activity. Ask friends and family members for recommendations to ensure you choose a reputable dance studio. Before purchasing the gift certificate, pay a visit to the dance studio and speak to the owner and or instructors. Since your husband may need a little coaxing to get him to the first lesson, be sure that he will find the environment to be a comfortable and encouraging atmosphere.

How to Get Your Husband to Dance with You At A Wedding: Practice At Home. Practicing in the privacy of your own home may give your husband the confidence he needs to dance with you at the next family wedding. After you receive the wedding invitation, let your husband know how much it would mean to you to enjoy a dance or two together at the upcoming wedding. Set aside several evenings to turn the music up and enjoy some time together dancing around the living room. Have a positive attitude and make it fun and your husband will have a difficult time not getting in the spirit.

How to Get Your Husband to Dance with You At A Wedding: Offer Praise And Encouragement. Praise your husband for his efforts on fulfilling your wish and let him know how much fun he is to dance with. Encourage him to let loose and have fun while enjoying the music. Remind him that no one expects him to be John Travolta and that the fun of dancing together is not limited to how precise and proper the dance moves are executed.

How to Get Your Husband to Dance with You At A Wedding: Settle For A Slow Dance Or Two. After all of your best efforts, your husband may still only be comfortable slow dancing with you at a family wedding. If he simply won't budge, then enjoy your romantic dance together and have loads of fun at the family wedding dancing to the Y.M.C.A and Electric Slide with your sisters and cousins while he stands on the outside of the dance floor. There is no reason why you shouldn't thoroughly enjoy yourself while he watches. The most important element of attending a family wedding is that you both enjoy your night out together.

I know this article is fairly old but is still worth a comment. I was searching for discussions or articles about dancing since my wife wants to dance and I'm pathologically terrified of dancing. If she read this article and tried the advice it would help....some. I'd certainly try.

However when I'm honest with myself I admit that nothing is likely to get me on the dance floor. I'd rather be shot.

Fantastic article idea! Even though he knows how to dance, it's tough to get my husband out on the dance floor.

Very good tips here, but I don't think they'd work for me! Ah well, some men are just too stubborn. :-)

Good ideas! I'll have to try them. My husband won't get up and dance for anything.
