How Hypnosis Can Help Overcome Over Eating
Interview with Hypnotherapist Kathryn a Griffiths MSW, LCSW, BCD
Do you find yourself frequently over eating? Are you unsure how to overcome over eating? If you answered, "yes" then hypnotherapy could be just the form of therapy to help you overcome over eating. To help understand where over eating stems from and how hypnosis can help you overcome over eating, I have interviewed hypnotherapist Kathryn A Griffiths MSW, LCSW, BCD.
Tell me a little bit about yourself.
"I am licensed clinical social worker and a certified clinical hypnotherapist. I am also the owner of the Center for Mindful Change, LLC. The Center for Mindful Change, LLC applies a variety of methods such as hypnosis to treat individuals, couples, children and families. I have experience working with clients on issues such as anxiety, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, weight issues, ADHD and relationship problems."
Where does over eating stem from?
"Overeating can occur for a variety of reasons such as bad habits, family traditions, an attempt to forget about troubles, or as a result of feeling depressed, anxious or overwhelmed. Many times over eating is a subconscious action, where we eat 'in a trance' without even knowing what or how much we are eating."
How can hypnosis help someone overcome over eating?
"Our unconscious mind is very powerful and often the key to self-destructive behavior such as over eating. The work of hypnosis by an experienced professional allows entry to the complex internal workings of the subconscious. With hypnosis a person can begin to make healthy eating choices, develop conscious eating patterns versus eating in a trance, accept the idea of life long changes in looking at the way to eat versus going on a diet."
What would a typical hypnosis session for over eating be like?
"A good history should be taken, including the over eating patterns developed throughout life. Then induction into a trance with graduated relaxation, and deepening, then using hypnotic techniques to help the person's subconscious make the changes that are needed for healthy eating."
Where can someone get hypnosis help for their over eating?
"You should look for a professional who has a certification in hypnosis and has had lots of experience dealing with over eating. If you can get a recommendation, that is the best. It is also good if the professional has the ability to treat or has contacts for referral if it appears that further treatment is necessary; for example, for depression, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders or for medical issues that need to be addressed clinically."
Thank you Kathryn for doing the interview on how hypnosis can help someone overcome over eating. For more information on Kathryn A Griffiths or her work you can check out her website on www.centerformindfulchange.com .
