While in the womb if they share the same placenta then one may get more nutrients then the other. This is what makes them different in size. Many twins will be within 1 pound in weight and 1-2 inches in length. Most of these twins will seek their own personalities, appearances and interests. Don't be concerned this is normal. By the time they are teenagers many will try to be different. They will change hair style, color and even wear different style clothing.
Some scientists say that because of the genetic material one may be very active. The other twin may want to be quiet, and stay to themself. The differences in their profiles from genetics are called epigenetic differences. Such differences are in their health, personality and appearances. Researchers say that their genetic profiles and DNA are different. They are not sure if this change takes place while they age or they developed as a fetus. Because of this change some opinions are that they are not identical.
Twins are like other children in ways of food. Some like one food while the other may not like it. One may not like green bean and chicken. Yet the other twin will not eat either of these foods. Now for a moment let's talk about girls and their behaviors. One may like certain clothing and shoes while the other likes something different. With twin girls it is not unusually for one to want dresses and pretty shoes. Yet the other will wear blouses/shirts, pants and boots.
Some twins may do exactly what the other does and likes. As they get older they may even grow more of a bond. Some twins can not be divided no matter what is done. They may even marry and buy houses side by side or on the same street. Even same sex twins that are not considered identical may be inseparable.
The fact is that twins really do not have many differences then other siblings. Identical twins except for they look more alike are just twin. Children in general are individuals and need to be treated as such.
