How to Identify Yourself in Microsoft Windows XP

Your Identity

Brad Wood
This is a small little trick you can use in Microsoft Windows XP to share your own identity in the Properties Area of My Computer. You can use this just to play with the system or you can use that to give the 'Contact Us' details to your clients if you are selling computers. This can also be used a clean trick to impress your subordinates. This can also be used to make your Computer Private to you.

To reach this you have to right click on My Computer Icon that resides on Desktop and select the last option Properties from the Context Menu that appears. The small window that appears will display the information about your computer which includes the version of the Operating System you use, Processor Details, RAM Statistics and the User Registration details. It also includes a Microsoft Logo. This is the place where you can add more details that you wanted to add.

Now lets get to work and change that properties box. First of all, navigate to Start Menu. Select Run from the menu and type Notepad in it. This will open an Empty Notepad file for you. Now just type the following code in it or just copy paste and change the values appropriately to what you need show in the dialog box.

[General]
Manufacturer="Name Of Manufacturer goes here!"
Model="You can describe your model or some relevant Information here! "
[Support Information]
Line1="You can almost type in anything that you care to show. This is the place holder for the same."
Line2="To Enter a New line you can type in this fashion."

Please do not think of adding your custom made keywords are these are predefined according to the Standards and cannot be changed or reconfigured. Now just save this file in the following location with this specific name: OEMINFO.INI

C:\Windows\System32\

Now if you would like to attach a photo of yours' or your company's logo then just select that logo. Change its size to 150 pixels by 150 pixels and place that logo in the same folder as that of oeminfo.ini and name the logo as oemlogo.bmp. Please take care of the extensions. They should not change and should be maintained as they are shown in here.

Just restart your computer and go to the properties window by right clicking the My Computer Icon on desktop and selecting the Properties option. You should now see the changes you made easily.
