How to Impress Your Boss at Work

Evan Nash
Nobody will have more of an impact on your career than whoever happens to be directly superior to you at your current job. You will not have the opportunity to be promoted, be able to get any raises or get the best assignments unless you prove to be capable to this person. This is why it is important that you take the time to show your boss that you are capable of doing anything that he or she requires. There are a few things you can do to stand out to and impress your boss every day.

1. Complete your work on time every time. If your boss never has to ask why you are not done or where your work is they will start to realize that you have great skill at time management and decision making.

2. Don't complain about having too much work to do, ever. There is a difference in being busy and complaining about being busy. When you are busy people can notice without you saying anything, when you complain people grow tired of hearing about everything.

3. Refrain from asking what the job you are assigned to do can do for you. When you repeatedly ask why you have to do this or that you seem to only be interested in bettering yourself. Ask what you can do to help the business and you will shoot to the top.

4. Never allow yourself to miss an opportunity. If you are in a meeting and your boss suggests that something needs to be done, volunteer immediately to be the one to do it. Better yet, if you volunteer for a job before your boss even asks you will win even sooner.

5. Speak up in brainstorming sessions or department meetings. You shouldn't worry about if your observation is smart or stupid, nobody appears less helpful than the person not saying a word. Take a chance and give your opinion, it may be the best move you ever make.

Ultimately, winning over your boss's admiration is a game of participation without complaining. Don't ever tell your boss that something he or she asked you to do is not in your job description. Your job description is to do what they ask you to do unless it is demeaning or unethical. Follow these steps and you will impress your boss and be on the fast track to success in no time at all.
