How to Improve FPS on a Samsung Captivate Smartphone

Blair Mathis

The Samsung Captivate is a smartphone that, when hacked to use an EXT2 file system structure, can achieve a high performance level that outranks other higher-end, more expensive phones. By changing your Samsung Captivate to run an EXT2 file system, you'll improve its overall speeds, increasing the number of frames-per-second, commonly referred to as FPS, you can achieve during game play, resulting in smoother character motions and better graphics.

Step 1

Download "Update.zip" onto your computer.

Step 2

Insert an SD card into your Captivate, then connect the device to your computer via its data cable. When prompted, click "Open Folder to View Files."

Step 3

Copy the "Update.zip" file into the folder that you opened in Step 2, then disconnect your phone.

Step 4

Press and hold the "Power" button to shut your Captivate off.

Step 5

Press and hold the "Volume Up," "Home" and "Power" buttons simultaneously until the Samsung Galaxy logo appears, then release the buttons.

Step 6

Press the "Up" and "Down" buttons simultaneously to pull up a list of files on the SD card, including the "Update.zip." Highlight the folder using the arrows keys, then press the "Menu" button to select it. The Captivate automatically installs the folder and restarts.

Step 7

Select "SL4A" from the "Apps" menu after the Captivate restarts. Select "LagFix_Ext2.sh" by tapping the screen. It automatically installs and the phone reboots. After the Captivate restarts, it will be running an EXT2 file system and will have noticeably improved FPS performance.
