How to Improve Your Putting Out on the Golf Course

Putting Can Make or Break Any Round

Putting out on the golf course can make or break any round. If you're having a bad day with all your other clubs, and you are putting excellent, chances are you arte still going to post a fairly decent round. Likewise if you are hitting everything else excellent, you just cannot putt at all, chances are you're not going to have a great round. Basically what golf comes down to is the short game, and more often then not, the putter. Any good golfer knows that for a good round, their putter needs to be on. Therefore if you are a golfer who is serious about the game, and wants to score better, then the first place you need to look is your putting.

There are many different things that can be done to change how well you putt. There are different clubs out now designed to help you putt better, there are different ways to practice, and also different ways to line up the putt. The biggest thing however in improving your putting skills is all about repetition and practice of the same variables. What I mean by that is, the same putter, the same stance, the same line up technique. Everything needs to be the same for every putt. This helps create rhythm, which is what a lot of bad putters don't have.

Practice makes perfect, but it is not everything. A putter can actually have a lot to do with the way you are putting. Unfortunately many of the nicer putters can run very high in price, but some of those putters are really worth it. A good putter obviously isn't going to putt the ball in the hole for you, but it does help with feel. Have you ever played a round of putt putt with those putters they give you? It is like trying to knock the ball in the hole with a hockey stick. There is no feel and you just try to hit it in the general direction. With many of these new putters you have a sense of feel for the putter, which helps drastically in your putting, and will eventually lead to more made putts.

Now that you have a putter that you feel is right for you, you need to develop a way to line the ball up. Many people like to draw a line on their ball, and when they place it back on the green they point the ball where they want it to go. This technique works extremely well once you start to get a feel for it. There's a pattern here if you have noticed. Putting is all about feel. Another way to help you line up the ball is where you stand over the ball. If you are directly over the ball, you will see the line and the cup better, then if you were a little behind the ball. There is even a legal putter out now where it stands straight up for you. You then proceed to walk behind the club and line it up the way you want it. Walk back to the club, grab it, and putt in the exact line that you just set up.

A great round of golf usually comes down to a great round of putting. If you have ever watched the pros, you know that everyone there is an amazing putter. They make putts left and right that are a lot further than you and I make every once in a while. They are also putting on a lot harder greens. However that is why they are professionals. All that we amateurs can do is work on our putting to help improve our scores. There are many things that can be done to improve putting, which include a new putter, a new rhythm, or the way you line the putt up.
