First write down the words that you have difficulty with in a note book.
Then define each word using a dictionary.
Then check the 'spelling help' in your dictionary, for examples of changes with respect to change in word form. For example; improve (verb) -ving, -ved etc.
Based on your definition of the words; write the words in complete sentences.
Now that you know the words and you have worked with them; sound the words out and make an effort to divide the words into syllables.
Once you have divided the words into syllables, check the dictionary for the pronunciation key. For example; im• prove (IM PROÓV).
Moreover, use spelling rules to help you remember the words that you think are a little more challenging. For example, "i" before "e" except after "c."
Word list includes; brief, achieve, believe, sieve, etc.
After C
For example, receive, ceiling, deceive etc.
Then look at the exceptions to the rule; like, protein, species, weird and so on.
Now practice spelling the words without looking at the book OR have someone quiz you on them. Then check your work.
Repeat steps 1 to 8 until you are comfortable with the words.
Lastly, for words that are even more challenging, write them in a separate list and memorize them. Then practice those words using mnemonic devices as an aid to help you memorize those words. You can write the words in sentences, or as rhymes and any device that helps you to organize or classify the words so that you can recall the spelling words with ease.
