How To Increase Your Chances of Survival in Call of Duty 4

Kyle S.
Call of Duty 4 is one of the most popular online games for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. It is very fast-paced and can be pretty frustrating sometimes, especially if you're new to the game or just not the best at shooters.

There are tons of tips that you will learn over time by playing the game which will help you be better and more efficient during online play. I'm going to go through and list five good tips to follow when playing online. I'm not saying that doing this will make you amazing at this game. I'm not posting super secret tips and strategies here but tips that will help you improve with a little practice.

First off, this might sound dumb saying this but Call of Duty 4 is NOT Halo 3. I can't even describe how funny it is seeing people sprinting around in wide open areas just asking to get picked off. This game is all about stealth and strategy. If you just plan on running and gunning, then your not going to do very well. In fact, your kill to death ratio will not look good at all. Mines not amazing but its somewhere around 1.75 which is like 2000 more kills to deaths at the moment. Here some of the guidelines I use when playing Call of Duty 4 online.

Crouching is one of your best friends. When you can avoid running and making a lot of racket, then do so. Nine times out of 10, then person that gets killed is the one that is heard running around. By crouching it makes almost silent and harder to see from a distance. If someone sneaks up on you, your pretty much out of luck but you would be in any case. There is a perk you can use that makes your footsteps silent but I honestly don't notice any difference when I use it so I wouldn't bother with it unless personally you like it.

When sniping, make sure you don't sit in the same spot. That should be common knowledge because eventually they will pin down where you are at. One very good tip I've learned is after you snipe somebody, keep the scope up for at least 5-10 seconds. By doing this, when the person you sniped views the kill cam, it makes harder to see where your actually at. After you kill somebody, always head somewhere else. Many people think that they will rack up tons of kills by sniping. Sometimes you will but not very often. Also, only snipe on the large outdoor maps. Theres only two or three maps on Call of Duty 4 that really justify sniping. The best is obviously the map: Overgrown.

Weapon choice plays a key role in what map your at and what game mode your in. For bigger maps your obviously going to want to use a weapon with pretty good range on it. Theres a wide variety of weapons that are good in range and some you might not expect. For an example, I've been using the RPD which is a light machine gun with a 100 round clip. When you unlock the grip for it, it makes it almost as accurate as a G3 and when you add stopping power and deep impact on top of it, it is one deadly combo. Many people like using the M16 and M4 for medium to long range shots. Also the sniper rifles are a popular choice for the campers.

For smaller maps like Vacant, guns like the P90, Mini-Uzi, and shotguns are very appropriate. Strangely I see a lot of people that enjoy sniping on this tiny indoor map? The auto shotgun takes a lot of heat for being a "noob" weapon, but honestly, it cleans up! The P90 is strong and has a huge clip. I recommend using the extra ammo perk when using it. Other guns like the M60 or RPD also do very well on this map since they carry range and are powerful. The UAV Jammer isn't a bad option either. Stealth is always good.

That brings me to my next tip, and that is do NOT underestimate the silencer. For game modes like search and destroy or team hardcore death match, having a silencer can make a huge difference. The big thing is, when you fire a shot, you won't appear on the enemy radar. In team hardcore death match, there are no radars but your enemies won't hear your gunshots either. Having a silencer will hurt the range and you will be stuck with the iron sights which makes aiming harder with some guns like the G36C for example. In terms of a sidearm, I would still use the desert eagle because of its power and if you use last stand, then its about the only gun that really helps you. If you play a lot of team hardcore death match, using any other pistol will be alright because it's super easy to kill people in one to two shots. UAV Jammer will also play a large role for you as well. Having silenced weapons plus a UAV Jammer, pretty much makes you invisible on the radar.

Other small tips include always reloading after a gun fight. Getting caught with an empty clip is always embarrassing. Choose your perks based on the gun your using and game mode. In hard core team death match, perks like stopping power and juggernaut is useless. For stealthier game modes like search and destroy, try using silenced guns and perks to help give you the edge on your enemies, and make sure to crouch when possible so your not too loud. Always be caution when making a bolt in the open or walking by windows. Always remember that bullets can travel through a lot of walls and if a player has the deep impact perk, they can travel through even more walls. So take that into account when taking cover.

These are just a few tips and there are tons more out there. These are some real basic guidelines and with some practice, can help you become a better Call of Duty 4 player online.

I agree with run&gunner. And also...Overgrown personally is horrible sniping map...good RPD map or m16 map. But I snipe a lot, and also when I was playing on downpour, I got on the mounted machine gun, got a 12 kill streak and ran out with my RPD. Then I was just running and gunning with my RPD. Picked up an m4 carbine along the way and used that some...it saved my life. In the end, 29 kills, 2 assist, 0 death. So yea...I'm at about a 1.25 k/d ratio at a 6th prestige. also about 25% accuracy. Cobydog13 is my x box live name.

Actually, i disagree 100%! People like you make the game easy for people like me. It's quite simple; sprint, cover, check, shoot and repeat. As long as you are prepared to shoot or knife at a moments notice you'll be a champ like me. Also by running in the open you tempt all the whimps in hiding to take a shot at you and that's their first mistake because they're not used to the action, they're not warmed up! So, I take cover and pick them off in some building across the map with a P90. I actually told a guy that I was going to run up the field and take him out while he was on the 2nd floor on a mounted machine gun. He gave it his best, I'll give him that...or maybe i shouldn't say that because it wasn't very good. Anywho the moral of the story is: I shoot him, droped him like a sack of potatoes. So to anyone who really wants to win a match in under three minutes like me take my advice RUN AND GUN. - Happy Gaming
