In order to raise your metabolism you must exercise regularly. This can be as simple as a daily vigorous walk, or as complex as long distance running and resistance training. Try to exercise at least five times a week for twenty minutes per day. And though it may be painful, try to incorporate morning exercise into your routine. Exercising in the morning will help set the tone for your body for the day, increase your metabolism, and help you feel more alert during your day. Try exercising one morning a week, be vigilant about it, and if you feel results, start a second day.

NOTE - If you're not a regular exerciser, you should always consult a physician before beginning any exercise program.
It may seem simple, but getting the proper amount of rest is essential to having a lot of energy. Surely you can remember a late night on the town and how you felt the next day? Getting eight hours of sleep allows your body to recover from the days trials and tribulations of that day, and to prepare for the next day, both mentally and physically.
A well balanced diet will also help increase your metabolism and give you more energy. If you are consuming five servings of fruit and vegetables every day, limiting the consumption of red meat, and eating lots of whole grains and fiber, you will absolutely have more energy. Limiting fried foods, deserts, sugars, fatty meats, and other unhealthy foods (yeah you know what they are) will give you more energy throughout the day. Focus on consuming a healthy, balanced breakfast including some protein - dairy, eggs, lean meat, and whole grains in order to get your day off on the right foot.
A close companion of a healthy diet is drinking plenty of water. A recent study showed that the majority of afternoon on the job sleepiness was caused not by "food coma", but lack of proper hydration. Water is the most essential ingredient of a healthy body (a close second after oxygen) and you should drink at least eight glasses of water per day, more if you are exercising.
Increasing your metabolism can change your life and make you feel more invigorated than you thought possible. Undertaking all of these steps will not necessarily be easy, but it can change your life for the better.
