Once you do get successful on any site, the other problem that I have found is that often people comment on your articles on those sites, rather than on the articles themselves, so you have a lot of Facebook comments for example, but none on the blog. In reality, an article looks a lot more popular if it has dozens of comments on it. I have to admit that so far I haven't found the solution to this problem.
