How to Inexpensively Decorate with Flowers

Silk Flowers and Various Vases, Planters for Low Cost

It is a pleasure to walk into a room filled with various flowers and flower arrangements. Flowers freshen up a room and add a naturally comfortable feel to a room. Unfortunately it is too expensive to decorate with fresh cut flowers everyday and it is quite a responsibility to feed, water and repot houseplants.

Don't fret! You can still have a wonderful floral theme room without spending much money. The answer is to use silk or other type of fake flowers instead of real flowers. Quality fake flowers look as pretty as the real thing, although by shopping in the right spot the price will be pennies on the dollar. Vases and other flower holding items are also easily found to add to your room's design theme.

Goodwill stores and thrift shops, yard and garage sales are treasure troves of quality flowers. These places normally have great flowers that someone has just tired of and usually cost a couple dollars or less. Many times the stores will be overloaded with home decorating items and will be ready to make a deal with you.

Never mentally discard the flowers at first sight, but rather give them a chance. You need to imagine the flowers in another vase (or in one if not already) and sometimes you even need to imagine the fake flowers cleaned. However, there is a difference between inexpensive quality flowers and cheap trashy flowers so use your best judgment.

When buying slightly used silk flowers, it will probably be necessary to lightly clean them. The easiest way to do this is with a can of air. Spray with bursts of air from the back of the petals and leaves. This will force dust particles to blow off the material instead of further into it.

Vases can normally be washed with soap and water or Windex and paper towels. If you are extremely lucky, you will come upon $100 crystal vases for as little as $5. Sometimes people don't realize how valuable something is simply because it is covered in dirt and grime.

Another valuable item to pick up at these type of places is any decorative item that contains flowers that you would use in your home. For instance, a Home Interior table centerpiece that holds broken or unusable flowers surrounding a large pillar candle could be reconditioned with fresh flowers.

Needless to say, this is one way to decorate your home or office that won't cost you an arm and a leg.
