How to Use Ingredients from Your Refrigerator to Make Natural Beauty Care Products

A. Kairi
This article focuses on specific ingredients that are readily found in the average persons kitchen and how these ingredients can be used for natural home beauty care. The main goal is to prepare the reader to create their own natural beauty care recipes.

It is unfortunate that many cosmetics and other beauty care items are laden with synthetic ingredients. Chances are good that a quick glance at a beauty care product label will reveal several ingredients that the average person can not even pronounce much less understand.

These beauty care products are also often overpriced. It is practically a crime that so many people pay exorbitant amounts of money to apply harsh chemicals to their body.

There is an alternative. Many natural beauty care products can be made with ease and will help the preparer save money. Before I list ingredients I must note that some people may have an allergic reaction to one or more of the ingredients used. If you have a known allergy to ingesting any ingredient on this list, avoid using it in recipes. If you show any signs of an allergic reaction after using a homemade recipe discontinue using it (and all ingredients in it) and consult your doctor.

The following ingredients are easily found and are excellent for use in home made beauty products:

Honey - A natural humectant it will draw moisture to your skin. Honey is also anti-bacterial in nature, using it in a facial treatment can help clear up minor acne. Honey also soothes inflamed skin and helps it heal. Also nice for moisturizing dry hair.

Strawberries - the natural enzymes and fruit acids found in strawberries help ex-foliate skin. The fruits vitamin c content will also give tired skin a refreshing lift and glow.

Whole Wheat Flour- This flour has a high vitamin E content which works wonders on the skin. The flour also contains a high amount of fiber which makes it very useful for ex-foliation.

Yogurt- Soothes inflamed skin while moisturizing it.

Green Tea - Green Tea is higher in caffeine than other tea blends making it very beneficial to the skin because caffeine tones and tightens the skin.

Pineapple - Great for oily skin, clearing up acne and deep cleansing

Papaya - Papaya is rich in the natural enzymes needed for deep skin cleansing and strong ex-foliation.

Beer- Beer is great for using as a hair rinse, will make hair very shiny.

Lemon Juice- Use in hair rinses for lightening hair. Add to any facial recipe for added cleansing. Lemon has astringent properties and its vitamin C content gives the skin a healthy glow.

Fruit Rinds- Rinds from citrus fruits are especially useful in natural beauty care recipes. Ground up rinds give recipes a pleasant scent and are excellent ex-foliants when added to body scrubs.

Vanilla, Peppermint, and Almond Extract - An easy way to add a scent to your recipe.

Olive Oil - Wonderful for the hair and skin. Can be used as a hair treatment to moisturize and soften hair.

Mayonnaise - wonderful for stressed hair. it is naturally moisturizing and will perk up hair while leaving it softer and shinier.

Oatmeal - Great for soothing and moisturizing skin.

If you have dry skin these ingredients will work well for you:

Yogurt, Honey, Olive oil, Soybean oil, and Whole wheat flour

If you have oily skin these ingredients will work well for you:

Green Tea, Sage, Pineapple fruit and juice, Oatmeal

If you want tighter, more toned skin these ingredients will work well:

Green Tea, Orange, Lemon, Lime, Strawberries, Papaya, and Pineapple Juice.

Example Recipe: Strawberry Yogurt Mask

Ingredients:
4 large well mashed strawberries
4 tablespoons of Plain Yogurt
1/2 teaspoon of honey

Directions: Mix all ingredients together until the mixture looks very uniform. Apply mask to face and leave on for approximately five minutes before rinsing it off with lukewarm water. This mask is excellent for soothing irritated skin. It will also help tone, tighten and moisturize the skin.

Try mixing and matching different ingredients according to your skins needs and based on what scents and consistencies that you find pleasant. You will need to grind and mix your ingredients well and make sure to wash all fruits before using them in recipes. Recipes made with these ingredients will generally be perishable so keep any leftovers refrigerated and use within a few days.
