How to Install a Bathroom Door

Installing bathroom doors can be easy if done the right way. There are different types of doors: exterior and interior. Interior doors are used inside of the house and exterior doors are used when going outside.

Measure the door. If there is already an existing door, measure it from top to bottom for the height, and from side to side for the width. This will indicate what size door you need to purchase. Professionals can also measure, but most door measurements are pretty standard, unless it was a custom-made door.

Remove the brace that is holding the door and hinges in place. Check that the new door is the right fit. This is easier if there are two people, so one can hold the door while the other one checks the door by leveling and making sure that it fits properly.

Remove old trim, head, and outside jambs. Nail the new jambs in, but remember to keep checking that the door is aligned correctly. The door will not close properly when finished if alignment is a little off.

Screw in the hinges using a drill. Trimmer might be needed to properly fit the door. If this is the case, replace the manufactured hinge screws with longer ones that match. This will allow the door to maintain its position and not sag.

Piece together the door knob as stated by the manufacturer's instructions. Screw in the strike plate, though don't make it too tight in case it is not adjusted properly. Open and close the door multiple times to make sure it is closing right. If everything is fine; finish screwing in the strike plate. Then, install new trim or use the old if it is in good shape. Do not use screws in the trim, use nails.
