How to Install Lambo Doors on a Custom Car
Custom Opening Doors on Your Car Can Set it Apart from All Other Customs
Kits have made the process of installing specialty items on custom cars an extraordinarily easy one. Among the modifications that once were only in the realm of professional customizers is installing Lambo doors. Custom cars have benefited from this modification for some time, but it's only now that they are really becoming mainstream. When you purchase your Lambo door kit, you can choose from either of two options for the final installed product. The least expensive is Lambo doors that have no motorized assist mechanism, which would effectively raise the door by itself as soon as you pull the door release either inside or outside the vehicle. The second kind of door is supported by a hydraulic assist shock similar to a car shock absorber, that reduces the overall weight of the door as it is lifted, but still requires you to lift the door to exit the vehicle. Both types of kits require some modification to the fender of the vehicle in order to install the new hinge. It needs to also be noted that regularly slamming the car door open and closed, as well as not closing it correctly, will damage the door hinge and will require you to almost constantly adjust the door to fit properly.
Begin by separating the parts of the kit from the package instructions. These instructions will detail exactly what steps you need to take in reference to your specific vehicle. While you will be able to use the existing door hinge mounts on the car, you will have to use the kit's door hinge mount to attach the door itself to the chassis.
You will see a black hose between the two hinges of the door. This hose houses the electronic controls for the door's window, electric locks and the radio speaker. Pry the end of the hose that is connected to the door out, and you will be able to see the wiring harness. On some vehicles, you may have to pull the wiring harness through this access hole. When this is done, disconnect the two halves of the wiring harness.
Unbolt the door from its hinges, and then with the help of an assistant, move the door to a place where it will be out of your way. It's best to only work on one side of the vehicle at a time. Remove the pair of hinges from the vehicle's chassis. The part of the car that they are attached to is called the "A" pillar.
It may be necessary to cut access holes into the internal structure of the fender when installing the Lambo door. If this is necessary for your vehicle, then cut the hole at this time precisely according to the instructions in your kit. On kits where there is no cutting necessary, the Lambo door kit simply bolts directly to the door's existing bolt holes with the supplied hardware.
Line up the door on the door mounting plate of the Lambo door kit and loosely fit the mounting bolts through the mounting plate and into the door's top hinge. Some kits use both the top and bottom hinge mounting points. The bolts should be finger tight.
Gently lower the door, and then close and open it to determine that the door fits correctly. If it does, tighten all the bolts for the installation, reconnect the wiring harness and the black protective tube, and then perform the same operation on the opposite door. Once completed, your ride will have a whole new attitude!
