How to Install Lotus Symphony on Ubuntu 8.10
A Step-by-step Tutorial on Installing IBM Lotus Symphony on Ubuntu 8.10
The original script for Lotus Symphony was heavily based on OpenOffice.org, but was further developed by IBM. Symphony supports the OpenDocument, or ODF, format in addition to the Microsoft Office and Lotus SmartSuite formats. However, Symphony does not support the Office Open XML format, which is used in Microsoft Office 2007. Lotus Symphony can also export Portable Document Format, or PDF, files.
Lotus Symphony is available for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux operating systems. This tutorial will show you how to install Lotus Symphony on Ubuntu 8.10.
1. Open your web browser and go to the Lotus Symphony website. Click on the Download link to start downloading the program.
2. Select the appropriate version for Ubuntu when the download page opens. Next, select your language and click the Continue button.
3. Log in using your IBM ID. If you don't have a previously existing IBM ID, you will need to use the guest login. In this case, you will need to fill in the requested information and accept the license agreement to continue.
4. Scroll down once you make it to the Download page. Click the tab labeled Download Using http. Next click on the Download Now button, and then save the file to your desktop or other location on your PC.
5. Double-click on the downloaded package once the download is complete. This opens the Package Installer dialog window. Click on the Install Package button. Type in your password. Lotus Symphony should be installed.
6. Click the Close button to exit the Package Installer. You are now able to launch Lotus Symphony.
