How to Install Mugen Stages

C.B. Jones
I wrote a how to on installing characters, so I figured stages would be a nice follow up. For this tutorial I will be using Prime 0p's "Barbon's Alley" stage. You can download this stage via the creators website: http://scrollboss.illmosis.net/mugenboss_stages.php

Most people put stage music in the same file as the stage def, but Prime 0p has opted(pun intended) to provide separate downloads. No biggie, just download the stage zip and extract it into the stage folder. Download the music and extract it into the sound folder.

The stages on this site work for both Dos and WinMugen. Seeing as I am using WinMugen, I open the "win" folder extracted from the zip, copy and paste it's contents to the stage folder. I do this so the stage sor2backalley.def is in the same place as the sor2backalley.sff file.

Go to the data folder and open select.def with notepad. In the section labeled "[ExtraStages]" you will see the default stage belonging to Kung Fu Man. to add Barbon's Alley type in the following: stages/sor2backalley.def

Save changes to the file and run Mugen to make sure the stage works. If you wanted to change the background music you could open sor2back.def and change "bgmusic = sound/sor2_bossmusic.mp3" to something else. For example, if you had a mini file in the sound folder change it to "bgmusic = sound/*name of file*.midi".

jstrok7: the stages you are trying to use are for an earlier version of Mugen. Goto the Docs folder and look in "incompt2.txt" for conversion instructions.

Daniel: Did you assign the new stage to your opponent? My other article explains that in detail: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/385713/how_to_install_mugen_characters.html

I install stage, but almost all stages I install come with the error:

    M.U.G.E.N Error

Error message: String value for name must be in quotes
Error getting stage name for stages/sky.def
    Error finding characters/stages in select.def

ok, so ive installed my stage into mugen, but now i cant use it- il start from the beginning.

i installed mugen and mugen characters, i can't fight them, i can only fight them if there opponent is kung fu man, if i fight 2 characters ive installed myself, it comes up "Error message: missing camera info: chars/*name of character*/*name of character*.def"
and then the program shuts down, so i went and searched google for answers and the only thing i found was someone saying "it is a problem relate to the stage used by opponent char. Try to change the stage." so i installed a stage, which im not sure if i did correctly XD. and when i go on mugen, i select my character ( i cannot select my opponent) and after i do it just comes up with the same message again, it doesn't allow me to select an arena, if you coul help that would be nice
