How to Get into Private-Torrent Web Sites

You are just dying to get into that exclusive torrent site. It has all the latest torrents and the fastest downloading speeds. It has a vast, helpful community that can answer just about any question you might have about media, torrents and the like.

The only problem is you can't get in. Just like most of the big private torrent websites, registrations are closed, and will probably never be open again. Don't cash in your chips just yet. Just because you can't just go and register, doesn't mean you can't get in.

Often, these large sites will have invite systems in place that allow existing members to invite new members. This is the only way you can get into most of the private torrent sites. However, these invites come with strict rules. To begin with, invites are not usually given to every user on the site. Usually, you will have to gain the privelage of having invites to share. This is done by being promoted to a higher level of user. The most common way of getting promoted is to increase your overall download/upload ratio. Once your ratio reaches a high enough limit, you will be promoted, and with that, you get invites.

Although many users have invites, it can be tough to obtain one. Unless you know someone with an invite they are willing to give, you may be out of luck. Users are often reluctant to give invites to anyone who asks for a couple of reasons. One reason is that most times a user only gets a few invites to give out. They don't want to "waste" them on someone they don't know. Another reason is that on some sites, if you invite someone and they cause trouble, it reflects poorly on the inviter and there can be repercussions. It is hard enough to get into these sites. Nobody wants to lose their account for some irresponsible thing you did.

If you are trying to get into a large private torrent site, you probably already know about IRC. For those who don't, IRC stands for internet relay chat. Many, if not all of the large torrent sites have an IRC channel. Even if you aren't a member of the site, usually you can log in to the site's IRC channel and chat with the moderators and other members. If you don't already know someone who is a member of the site you want to join, this is an excellent starting point. You can get to know the members of the site, and it helps if you can answer some of the questions about torrenting issues that frequently pop up during the chat. Don't go in there asking for an invite. Just go in there and become a part of the community, and in time you will most likely get an invite without asking.

The other ways to get into the private torrent sites are generally frowned upon and I do not suggest that you try them because they can get you banned from the site you are trying to get into. One such way is to purchase an account from a user. Sometimes users who no longer have a use for their account, or who need the money, will try to sell their account to a non-user. This is usually explicitly prohibited. The price for the account can vary depending on what the seller thinks the account is worth. If you are caught buying or selling an account(and they do have ways of catching you), both the buyer and the seller will most likely be banned for life.

Another way to gain access to a private torrent site is to trade invites. If you are already a member of a private site, you may have an invite to that site that could be of use to someone else. Say you want to join Site A, and you are a member at site B. Tim wants to join site B, and is a member at site A. If both users have invites, they can trade invites to each other and each goes home happy; unless they are caught. Unfortunately, invite trading is another frowned upon practice. While some do get away with it, those who are caught pay the price.

Once in a blue moon the major sites will open registrations. If you are waiting for this to happen, don't hold your breath. The only method I condone is the IRC method, and I can say from experience that it works. You should be an experienced torrenter if you are trying to get into one of the major private torrent sites. They are looking for users that can add something to their community. They are very selective, and that is what makes their sites the best. If you want to try the shadier ways to obtain an account, go ahead, but dont say I didn't warn you. Better yet, don't mention me at all.
