Getting into shape is the number one goal at the top of many people's New Year's resolution list. However, most of us don't know how to go about getting into shape. Remember, round is not a shape. Here are a few tips to help you get into good physical shape.

Develop an exercise routine. Effective exercise comes from working daily for a minimum of 30 minutes and a maximum of 90 minutes. Consistently sticking to a daily exercise routine can be very difficult. Plan a couple of days a month to rest your body. This will also keep you looking forward to your free days and more motivated to work out the rest of the time. Also, vary your exercises. This will help you get a total body workout and keep you from getting bored. Exercise in different locations such as your house, the gym and outdoors. A change of scenery will also help stave off boredom and may help you vary your activities.

Walking is a wonderful way to get a full body workout. Walking also helps lower bad cholesterol and raise good cholesterol while burning calories. Walking is a low impact exercise that almost anybody can do. Walking also helps improve mental health because it relieves stress and relaxes the mind. Plus, it is an exercise that can do done in just about any location and maintain the same effects.

Eating healthy plays a major role in getting into shape. Try to eat foods that are as natural as possible. If you cannot pronounce an ingredient on the package, it is probably not very healthy. Sugar, as most of us know, is not helpful in losing weight. Sugar is not just found in junk food and sweets, though. Carbohydrates, such as potatoes and bread, are also turned into sugar by our bodies. Fruits and vegetables, such as peas and watermelon are also high in sugar. Don't completely eliminate any of the major food groups from your diet. Eat all of the food groups in moderation.

Water is very important in staying healthy and getting into shape. After all, the human body is over 50% water mass, so it makes sense that water is an important part of our health. Drinking water also helps keep your skin tight. This prevents the creation of excess skin when you lose weight. Cold water helps aid in weight loss even more than does warm water. This is because your must first warm up the cold water to body temperature. The process that warms the water helps to burn calories. Of course, drinking the proper amount of water also helps stave off dehydration which can be physically and mentally exhausting and dangerous.

Getting into shape requires dedication and consistently. Finding a partner to exercise with you is a great way for you both to stay motivated. Also, assigning you attainable, short term goals helps increase motivation. Celebrate each physical fitness accomplishment no matter how small it may be. This will help you look forward to your next milestone.
