How to Make Jelly Bean Easter Cards

A Fun Craft Project for You and Your Family to Do Together

Lisa Stevens
Making a jelly bean Easter card will add a touch of color to a child's card. These make great gifts to give out to their school friends or even to family members such as grandparents or aunts and uncles.

The first thing you will need to do is get the supplies for this project ready. You will need the following:

Card Stock
Construction Paper
Glue (preferably crazy glue or a super glue, try not to use glue like Elmer's)
Different colored Crayon's
A handful of assorted colored jelly beans
Markers (Optional if you want to use crayons instead)
Easter Stickers
A Pencil

This is a pretty easy project to make and takes about 30 minutes to an hour total to complete.

The first thing you will need to do is create a card from the construction paper or card stock. You might even want to try gluing the construction paper to the card stock for a firmer look. This also prevents the card from bending if you add a lot of Jelly Beans.

Think of a cover design that you can accent with real Jelly Beans. A drawing of an Easter egg or a small bunny can work well. Also remember to practice sketching your design with a pencil first. Sketch lightly so it will be easier to erase if you make a mistake.

Next decorate the background. Try using the crayons or markers for this one. Another idea I find really works is using colored tissue paper glued onto the card to make a really nice and pretty background.

At this point you should get the glue ready and possibly practice on scrap paper to see exactly how much glue you will need for each jelly bean. You don't want to use too much glue because that will just cause an unattractive mess. You may need an adult to do the gluing part, especially if you are using super glue or crazy glue. Both of these glues are tough and making a mistake can be a problem. If you glue your fingers together it is very painful trying to get them apart, trust me.

When it comes to the jelly beans sort them out first by color. Also remember to leave the area you'll decorate with jelly beans blank. You could either use the jelly beans as a boarder on the side or to surround a design you sketched on the card. You could use yellow jelly beans to outline the sun, green one's for the grass, white for clouds or blue for the sky. You could also use pink or purple ones if you drew an Easter egg. Try to keep the outline of the egg one color, but I would suggest drawing zig zags and lines inside the egg to add other colored jelly beans to. Or if you drew a bunny I would suggest maybe using brown, black, white and carmel colored jelly beans. You might also want to try cutting the jelly beans in half to save on the amount you use and just glue the flat sides to the card. You should probably get an adult to do this also using a knife and cutting board.

Next write your message inside the card and add any decorations like another drawing or even the Easter stickers to it.

Allow the glue to dry completely and then you can either put it in an envelope to mail it out or give them out to friends and family. If you are giving them to small children try to explain to them the jelly beans are not for eating.

I'll send this to my sis, although she too may eat the jellies first.

These sound pretty, but I can imagine many kids even in mid elementary school would eat the jelly beans. Wonder if you can attach them with "food glue"?
