Now some experts are saying that infrastructure is the way to go; the United States infrastructure system hasn't had major revisions since the New Deal. And I do not disagree with that; the infrastructure alone could create a couple million jobs across the nation. Others are saying to invest in environmentally safe organizations and initiatives; once again, another good idea. But those methods have been done before. It is time we see something new.
Ladies and gentlemen, my friends and my fellow Americans, I propose that releasing the jet pack to the general public will not only boost the American economy, but send it soaring to heights we've haven't seen. Below are all the categories where jobs and money will be created and invested, respectively, as well as a call to action at the end for those who will join my efforts to make this a reality.
Jet-Pack Research and Development:
Gathering the best minds in jet propulsion, flight and safety in able to create the first mass-produced jet-pack would create thousands of jobs. Facilities and laboratories would have to be built, books would have to be written, materials would have to be gathered and managed. The United States Center for Jet-Pack Research and Development would gather millions of dollars of investment. The stock symbol for it could even be JET4FUN or something to that extent.
Jet-Pack Factories:
In order for this to boost the U.S. economy, it must be mandated that at least 80 percent of the jet-pack must be made from and in the United States. So not only will factories be sprouting everywhere, but all those companies that supply those raw materials will need to post a lot more "we're hiring" signs. This single aspect alone can account for a couple million people. First the land must be bought, then companies will propose that they be the ones to build the factory, the factory gets built, and then the workers are hired and the work begins. The jet-pack manufacturers will receive hundreds of requests from different raw material providers and then competition in an almost free market begins. Life is good again.
Jet-Pack Dealerships (New and Slightly-used):
Once these jet-packs are made, they are then shipped to hundreds of new jet-pack dealerships around the country. Salespeople trained in the special features of the jet-pack, and how a consumer can benefit getting a jet-pack over something not nearly as cool (A wise word to the future jet-pack dealerships owners: you might want to consider putting your salespeople on pure commission, those things will sell like hot-cakes). So let's say each state gets at least three jet-pack dealerships with four managers, two secretaries, nine salespeople, five mechanics, and four front desk people; we're looking at 3,600 new jobs easy. That's an entire high school in a suburb put to work just like that.
Jet-Pack Flying School:
Just because one will be off the ground doesn't mean you can skip some kind of certification. Like driver's education and the department of motor vehicles, a whole new department for jet-packs will need to be created. Some more documentation and regulation too, including:
-Jet-Pack learner's permit
- Jet-Pack limited license
-Jet-Pack Flyer's License
-Jet-Pack Insurance
-Jet-Pack J-PIN (Jet-Pack Identification Number)
-Department of Jet-Pack Regulation
Each person who wants a jet-pack will need to not only pass the written exam and the flying course, but will also need to obey the rules of the air.
Jet-Pack Police:
Like all things, jet-pack laws will need to be enforced by jet-pack police. At least this too creates jobs.
Jet-Pack Gas Stations:
I am unfortunately not well-versed enough in the physics behind the jet-pack, so I'm not sure what kind of fuel it will need. I guess I'll have to throw that question to the researchers at the U.S. Center for Jet-Pack Research (see, those people are already needed!).
Infrastructure:
I don't know if there should be a separate lane created for jet-pack users; in case some feel like not flying too high or too fast. So back to those experts at the very beginning of this article, they beat me to it; investing in infrastructure will be worth it.
Accessories:
Enter retail industry- imagine how many new gadgets, clothes, jewelry and more would be created. Magazines would have models posing with their jet-pack with a pair of jeans that decreases wind resistance. Department stores would start advertising shampoos that keep one's hair in tact after a long day of flying.
The point is people, it is time to stop looking behind us and time to start looking ahead to see how we can improve our nation's quality of life. Get creative people! Though the jet-pack would be awesome, I would be very content with something I haven't seen before. Why is it that our current leaders in business demand and lecture change and innovation but then cuddle with old ideas and familiar territory? Does no one else see that happening? The United States will not improve unless the business leaders in it decide to grow some and get a little risky. The lack of vision and the abundance of reactionary management sickens me. Start thinking of ideas, spread the word and start looking for investors so we can start changing the world. Thanks for reading.
