How to Make a Jigsaw Puzzle Card

Your can create your own puzzle greeting cards or puzzle invitation cards with these easy steps.

Start by deciding which material you'll make your puzzle card out of. You can purchase blank puzzles at craft stores or you can make your own using cardboard. For a sturdier puzzle use the thick cardboard like moving boxes are made out of. For an easier to cut apart and more lightweight puzzle, you can use the kind of cardboard that cereal boxes are made out of.

Next you'll decide what you want your puzzle card to look like. You can use a photograph, or a drawing, or you can write words on it, such as an invitation to your party. You can draw or write directly onto your blank puzzle. If you are using a photograph, you can use craft glue to attach the photo to the cardboard. Make sure it dries completely before moving to the next step.

Now is the time to cut apart your jigsaw puzzle card. You can try to cut traditional-shaped jigsaw puzzle pieces, or you can cut out any geometric shape that you prefer or that goes well with the theme of the card you're making.

Remember not to make the pieces too small, because you don't want the person receiving it to get overly frustrated and give up before they read your message or see your picture. Pieces around one inch big seem to work best for adults. If you're sending your card to a very small child, you'll want to make larger pieces.

Once you have all of your puzzle pieces cut apart, put all of the pieces into an envelope and seal it shut. Before you mail it, use a second envelope to hold the envelope of pieces and any note you wish to enclose. That way they'll be able to open the first envelope without spilling out all of the unexpected puzzle pieces and losing any of them.

This is a fun way to share pictures of the children with distant relatives or to make challenging invitations to your next party. If you use them as invitations, be sure to follow up with your guests to make sure that they managed to solve the puzzle in order to read the instructions and date for the party. You don't want them to be so puzzled that they cannot come to the party.
