How to Get a Job as a Mall Easter Bunny

Jessie Kay
Each spring, the Easter bunny infiltrates malls across the country, just like Santa does at Christmas. The Easter bunny and his entourage set up a springtime diorama in the middle of the mall's open space, greeting children and posing for overpriced photos. Yet how exactly do you get a job as a mall Easter bunny?

1. Contact mall management at least three months prior to Easter. Not all malls have Easter bunnies, so it's important to check with your local mall to make sure they're hosting an Easter bunny event. If the mall plans on having an Easter bunny, ask what company they use to find a bunny. Typically, the mall uses another company to hire their bunny.

2. Call the contracting company for more information. They'll be able to tell you if they have any Easter bunny openings for the malls you are interested in working at.

3. Search the Internet. Monster.com and other job-hunting sites are great places to find mall Easter bunny jobs. Also consider looking at IPCA -- it's one of the biggest Easter bunny (and mall Santa) hiring companies in the United States.

4. Apply for the Easter bunny job. You can do this by either filling out an online application or e-mailing the company your resume and cover letter. You don't need to have prior Easter-bunny experience but prior mascot experience is helpful.

5. Wait for the company to call. If two weeks pass and you don't hear anything, make a follow-up call to the company.

6. Go through the interview and training process. After the interview process, you will likely be subject to a felony background check. If you pass, you might be thrown right into the job or sent to training. Some companies send their Easter bunnies to "bunny school" for training. During bunny school, new Easter bunnies learn how to interact with the children, get good photographs and handle other on-the-job situations. Some of these companies, including IPCA, send new Easter bunnies to a regional training facility. They do not pay for transportation, so note this in your budget. The companies provide you with the Easter bunny suit. Remember, this is not a lucrative job. Most mall Easter bunnies do this because they love children.

7. Hop into your new job as a mall Easter bunny!

I'm sure I would be a sight every mall should have a 6 foot 1 350 pound black bearded hanicapped bunny.
