I work a full time job, have a family with two small children, and write for AC plus other companies. I try to write three or four articles a day. I also try to keep up all of the housework, cook supper, and have fun with my children. This on top of my regular job can be stressful. It can also be very tricky to manage.
It has taken some time now for me to get the hang of things. I have now finally gotten myself organized and I am successfully managing them all. I have learned a few tricks along the way. Some may work for you and some may not. Keep working at it until you find your niche. You will get there eventually.
The most important thing that I have had to learn is to make valuable sue of my time. Everything is preplanned out in my thoughts. I use down times, like in bed before I go to sleep, while driving, or while taking a shower to prepare my article writings in my head. Once they are in my head, they simply fly onto the computer screen when I am ready to write. This saves a lot of valuable time when I get a chance to work.
I have also had to learn my priorities. Although I may not feel like cleaning up or putting dishes away at night, my mornings are much more pleasant when I awake to a cleaner home. Attitude is a lot to dealing with a family and work. Therefore, do not put things off. If something spills, clean it up right then. Letting things wait can only add to more work.
Make use of your family. My husband is little help around the house. However, I have now discovered that even two and three year old children can clean up. Give them a rag and they love to dust.
Get sleep. It is a common misconception that you need to stay up all hours of the night or get up early hours in the morning to work. Lack of rest causes horrible, horrible moods. When you are tired your work suffers. Your family also suffers. Do not sacrifice your sleep for the work. If you must, do it only on an ever other nigh basis.
Set small goals for yourself. Setting larger goals that you cannot reach can be very frustrating. Let yourself have some accomplishments.
Try things to save time such as using crock-pot cooking or precooking on one night and freezing it for the week.
Play with your children. Laughter heals all. Do not forget to have fun with your family. Every now and then let loose and roll around on the floor. You'll feel revived.
