How to Get a Job in a Recession

How to Get a Job

L J Pearce
Getting a job is difficult, stressful, time consuming and at times disheartening. So here are a few tips, ideas and suggestions that you might just find useful when trying to get a job or even looking for a job.

1. Be creative and think outside of the box. Try to use individual and alternative ways to get a job as apposed to just looking in your local press and media. For example why not email all of your friends, family and colleagues tell them you are looking for a job and see if this produces any results. Your friends, colleagues and family may just well know of a position that might be perfect for you!

2. Stay ahead of the game, try to get wind of jobs before they even hit the press. Staying ahead of the game will help you get in their first and will give you a strong competitive edge.

3. Don't be a follower, make your CV super strong, make it awesome and make it stand out from the other hum drum, somewhat boring and dull CVs that are floating around.

4. Update your CV and start networking. If you are actively looking for a job then your CV should be in tip top condition as should your people skills. So get out there attending free networking events and similar.......who knows where this could lead you if you don't try?

5. Start telling people about what you do, what you can offer and why you are such an asset to any company. People talk and gossip, so give them something to talk and gossip about, who knows your future boss or employer might just hear about you through the all mighty and all powerful word of mouth.

6. Market your CV. Don't just apply for jobs you see online and offline, instead market your CV on websites such as www.monster.com Add your CV, contact information, and so on....who knows you might just get headhunted.

7. Help yourself and help others too. Why not help others with getting a job, with networking and so on. Help people get a job and they may just help you in the near future/a little further down the line and Remember to never burn any bridges.

8. Take some time out and keep a diary of all the jobs you have applied for. There is no point in applying for thousands of jobs all at once so why not take some time out and apply for a few jobs at a time, analyse the results and work on your weak areas, or perhaps areas that need some improvement. Spending a little time now can save you a lot of time in the future.

I hope you have found this article both useful and helpful, Good luck with getting a job, I wish you every success.
