Without a plan, your alt may sit in your character selection screen forever without advancing. It's time to take charge and push your character through the last levels they need, with some planning; it can be fun and rewarding to finish off your low level alt.
The first thing to think about is why your character hasn't advanced. One of the most common reasons that a character may get stalled is that they do not do enough DPS (damage per second) to advance quickly which leads to burn out.
Does your character have appropriate gear and talents for his or her level? Do you have add ons that help you quickly level by completing your quests and find your way around the map? Finally do you have a higher level friend or guild mate that can help you complete instances and difficult quests?
Do you have a friend who is willing to link accounts using the Recruit-A-Friend program? If you are lucky enough to have a friend to help you with the Recruit-A-Friend program, your leveling will go three times faster from levels 1-60! Recruit A Friend gives a straight up triple experience point gain for both mob kills and quest turn ins and the ability to summon the other character once an hour.
Also, if you use the Recruit A Friend program you will get a Zhevra Epic Mount for your main character and earn levels that you can grant to your new character. If you can get instance runs from your main characters and dual box, it is possible to get to level 60 in a couple days of game time, if not hours.
Make sure that you are ready to push your alt up to maximum level by reviewing the following checklist.
The Leveling Checklist:
- The character has a talent specialization for leveling which maximizes DPS and decreases downtime?
- The character's gear is no more than 5 levels below the level the character is at? Have you invested in an epic weapon or rare items for your character? Use Kaliban's Loot List to choose quests and instances that will help your alt the most.
- Are you using enchantments and consumables to minimize your down time? Does your character have enough gold, food, drinks and bandages?
- If you have a high level main character, have you given your alt heirloom item that increase experience points gained?
- Does your character have blue bar or rested bar for double experience point gain?
- You have the following add ons or their equivalents installed: Cartographer, Questhelper, Carbonite and Titan Panel?
- You have a good leveling plan or guide available and know where to go to get maximum experience points for your level. Jame's Guides is a website that offers free World of Warcraft guides specific to each level for both Horde and Alliance.
Talents for Leveling:
Always use the damage dealing tree for the character class that you play when trying to level, even if you are a healer. Priests level as shadow, druids level as feral, paladins level as retribution, shamans level as enhancement, warriors level as fury, rogues level as combat, hunters level as beast masters, mages level as frost for area of effect grinding or fire for single target damage, warlocks tend to level as demonologists.
Most death knights prefer the blood or unholy talent trees for leveling because blood hits hard and has self-healing and unholy offers a powerful pet, better diseases and increased area of effect damage. Whichever class you play, choose talents that directly increase critical strike, chance to hit and decrease the damage you take while fighting, self-heal or regenerate mana quickly.
AddOns:
Carbonite is a great addon for leveling because it features not only a map, quest utilities but also a fully functional leveling guide. If you are the sort of person who spent 4 hours looking for Mankirk's wife on the Barrens, this is definitely an addon you will want to consider getting because it will not only tell you about Mankirk's wife it will also point you in the right direction in game to find her and mark it on your map. If you use Cartographer and Questhelper, you will get the same benefit as Carbonite without the guide.
The Titan Panel is also useful for leveling because Titan shows you how much exp you are getting on average an hour. It will help you diagnose why your leveling is going slowly and help you stay on track. Titan also has numerous small plug ins that help you in many ways, it's definitelyan addon that is worth having and will enhance your World of Wacraft experience.
Where to go and when:
As a general rule of thumb, these zones are ideal for leveling your alt and will offer tons of great quests in addition to monsters that are just the right level for you to kill. For specifics, again I recommend that you visit Jame's Guides as his community is great at updating and developing new guides and the guides are free.
