How to Keep Your Blonde Hair Naturally Healthy and Light

TommiH
Being a natural blonde myself, I can personally say that this hair color can both be a joy and a curse. I love having light hair: it's who I am, but what a pain it can be to keep light and clean looking!

If you go in a chlorine filled pool in the summer, you are going to come out with a green tint to your blondeness after a few hours. If you happen to take a shower and the water has any hints of rust in it, your hair is eventually going to start turning a red color (which will mix in with the blonde and give you the hideous coloration of rust). So as you can see, many things can affect a blondes' hair easily. But you can eliminate this discoloration.

Lemony fresh and soaking up the sun

One way to get rid of unwanted discoloration in your blonde hair is to apply lemon juice to your hair and go out into the sun for about an hour. To do this, apply lemon juice to dry hair until it's wetted down (like you just got out of the shower, but you do not want it to be dripping everywhere.) Then go out and enjoy some sun. Avoid using a hat or putting your hair up while doing this because you could end up with streaky hair (some shades back to normal color and others will remain dingy appearing).

Sippin' on some Chamomile

It is a proven fact that if you drink Chamomile tea, your blonde hair will keep a healthy shine and coloration. You can also apply the Chamomile tea directly to your hair as a rinse. When I say "as a rinse" that means you do not rinse the Chamomile out of your hair. Just let the Chamomile tea dry as you would water.

Get me some Rhubarb! Please

A lot of people have the misconception that rhubarb will make your blonde hair take on a reddish color, but it won't! Rhubarb helps eliminate unwanted minerals and dirt that have clung to your light hair throughout your life. To use rhubarb as a blonde cleanser, simply get a stalk and cut it into small pieces. Once you have small pieces, place those pieces in a pan of water and completely submerge (the pieces will probably float for awhile, but they should later be able to sink to the bottom of the pan and still be covered with water.) Allow the pieces to bowl over high heat on the stove until they are soft (you can test this by stabbing a fork into one. If the fork stays in the piece, they are not ready yet. You want the fork to be able to stab a piece of rhubarb and the rhubarb fall off the fork). Drain the rhubarb water into a bowl or something to keep it handy. Let the water cool and then run the water through your hair. Allow the rhubarb water to remain in your hair and dry.

That is all for keeping your blonde hair healthy and light!
