How to Keep Your Car Clean with Five Easy Steps

Nancy Yu
Do some weeks pass where you feel like you are eating, sleeping, and changing your clothes in your car more than at home? Do you have those weeks when you are literally living in your car? More and more people are so busy that living in their cars is no longer a foreign concept. As you walk through the parking lot, you will notice cars with faint color schemes, windows that you can't see your complexion in, and of course, the mud-painted cars.

Looking into these empty vehicles, you will see everything from smashed soda cans, empty food containers, smelly sports gears, piles of papers, and clothes. All cars at one point had a color, seats, and doors. So take a few minutes and these five easy steps can help to make you car turn from looking like a closet to an actual car. If you do have a week when you have to live in your car, at least you will be comfortable and organized.

Step 1: Keep a plastic grocery sack in the front seat. Instead of crumpling up that plastic McDonald's wrapper and throwing it on the door, crumple it up and put it into the plastic bag. All you have to do is switch out the bag when it gets full. Besides, why pick the same wrapper up twice? Take care of it properly the first time.

Step 2: Keep some disinfectant wipes in the glove box. That way, when you smear mascara all over the place or your Carl's Jr. drips on the upholstery, you have a quick and effective way to clean it up.

Step 3: Keep books and miscellaneous gear in a box or container in the trunk. If you're hauling extra supplies around, keep them in the trunk in a box. That way, you know exactly where they are at all times, and they won't slide around in the backseat. Also, if you're taking friends home, you no longer need to clear the seat before the crew gets in.

Step 4: Take advantage of the trips. Every time you get out of your car to go into the house, check your car for things that need to go inside. If there are lots of clothes or shoes in your car, bring them in. That way the amount of extras that need to go inside won't build up to the point where you need a bulldozer to clear it all out!

Step 5: Hit the automatic car wash every once in a while. The longer you wait to clean your car, the dirtier it is going to get and the harder it is to clean. Carry a clean towel in the trunk and whenever you have a few minutes, run through the automatic car wash and dry it off with the towel when you're done. It's simple, takes only five minutes, and when you fill up your gas tank, you get a discount for the wash. Believe me, your dates will thank you!

We didn't solve the problem of living in your car, but at least you don't have to drive in that pig sty any longer. Just five simple steps to take in order to keep your car cleaner, smelling better, and your parents off your back about what a mess it is. Easy and simple!
