How to Keep Your Children Busy in a Motel This Summer when You Travel

With a Little Planning Your Children Will Look Forward to Getting to the Motel

Jeff Schuman
With summer vacations ready to get into full swing one problem families with young children face is how to keep them busy in a motel after a long day of driving. In this article here are a few easy tips you can use to make a motel stay more pleasant for all of you.

One thing to do is try and pick a motel with a swimming pool. Most name budget motels now have indoor and outdoor pools for your relaxation and enjoyment. Getting in the pool is a great way to burn off all of the energy everyone has built up sitting in a car all day. Getting out of the room may be good for dad as he just may want a little peace and quiet to himself.

Another thing many motel chains now have are game rooms. Depending on the ages of your children playing games may be what they want to do for a little fun. Along those lines many motels now offer movie rentals or movie channels on the t.v. and you can find a good movie everyone will enjoy.

Be sure and bring along age appropriate games and puzzles to play as well. You can kill a lot of time indoors if it is rainy or getting dark and not everyone is ready to go to bed yet. To make it even more fun let the children pick the place on the bed or in the middle of the floor to play their games. Even under a table with a blanket draped over the top will make the game playing even more fun.

One idea on movies is you can even surprise the kids with a few new movies that you have purchased especially for the trip. You can bribe them during the day by asking them to behave and when they get to your motel room you have a surprise movie for everyone to watch.

Toys are a great way to keep busy no matter where you are. Bring along their favorites or even go out and buy a new one just for the trip. A great trick to making the toys even more fun is to give each child a small bag or suitcase and allow them to fill it with whatever toys they want to bring. This gives the children some control over what they have and makes that bag of toys even more fun.

Traveling with children can be tough no matter how old they are especially when you are driving. Sitting in a car can be boring and there is no getting around it. Try and do things in the car like play the alphabet game, or see how many different U.S. license plates you can spot for all 50 states.

By keeping everyone busy in the car when you do get to your motel you will be in a better mood and ready to get out and do something more fun.
