How to Keep Christ in Christmas

Christmas is often called 'The most wonderful time of the year.' However with advertisements for products all over the television, and with angry customers arguing over the last discounted DVD player on the shelf, Christmas often feels like anything but wonderful. Even worse, it seems people have totally forgotten about what Christmas is supposed to be about. How can Christians remember Christ and keep him in Christmas? It can be done, and here are a few ways how.

Attend Church on Christmas or Christmas Eve. Almost every church has some sort of special service on or around Christmas Day. Make it a priority to attend this service with your family and loved ones. Attending this service will help you remember why Christmas is even a holiday and will keep Christ alive during this time of the year.

Have a special time before opening gifts. When I was a kid I couldn't wait for Christmas morning to run down stairs and open all my gifts. Unfortunately even after waiting all night with excitement, I had to wait some more. I had to wait until the entire family was awake. My dad made the entire family pray together. Then the part I hated, we had to tell something we were thankful for. Well when your ten this sounds corny, but it really was a great way to keep Christ first. Develop some sort of time like this with your family on Christmas morning. You may choose to do a prayer, read a scripture or sing a song. Whatever you do you are showing Christ that you are keeping him first on his day.

Share the good news with others. What better time than Christmas to try to lead a person to Christ. Take the holiday time to share the hope of Jesus to someone you know needs to hear it. You may not only save a soul but you will also feel good about what you have done. You will be putting Christ first.

Display your message. Use your holiday decorations to show the world that 'Jesus is the reason for the season.' Display signs in your yard that recognize Jesus. Display a nativity scene or other religious symbols that are associated with Christmas. You can say so much with your decorations without physically saying a word. People need to be reminded that there should be more to Christmas decorations than trees and lights.

Unfortunately, TV's and ipods will probably always get more attention than nativity scenes. This doesn't mean however we should stop sharing the news of the birth of Christ. Do whatever you can to keep Christ first during the holiday season. You will be glad you did and you will enjoy the season so much more.
