First, cleanse your face every morning, and night to get rid of makeup, dirt and oil and to unclog your pores and keep breakouts at a minimum. Next, use a toner to remove any hints of makeup or dirt and grime. A toner can also help minimize the appearance of pores, restore pH balance, and help you skin absorb moisturizer. Pick a moisturizer that is designed for your age and specific skin type.
You will want one that has vitamins and antioxidants to fight back the environmental damage done. Vitamin A helps increase your cell turnover and also has anti-aging benefits. Vitamin C reduces fine lines and wrinkles. Vitamin E helps to smooth your skin. Lastly, you will want to protect your skin with a moisturizer with an SPF 15 or higher every day and all year long. Constant exposure to the sun, direct or indirect, can cause premature aging of skin, irregular pigmentation like brown spots, and eventually skin cancer.
The skin on your neck and chest is sensitive and thin and shows signs of aging like your face. Don't forget these areas when you are taking care of your face!
In your 20s, you are plagued with clogged pores, uneven texture, and occasional breakouts. To battle this, cleanse, tone, and moisturize twice a day to prevent excess oil and future breakouts. You may also want to use products with alpha and beta hydroxy acids to exfoliate. Ladies in their 30s battle dull, uneven skin tones, fine expression lines around their eyes, mouth, and forehead, and dry patches and flakiness. A moisturizer and eye cream can help hydrate the skin and target those expression lines. Women over 40 begin to get fine lines and wrinkles, dehydrated skin, and lose the elasticity in their skin.
If this is you, use a moisturizer and eye cream with anti-wrinkle and firming benefits. Look for ingredients such as pro-retinol and par-elastyl which makes skin appear younger. You may also want to consider using a serum or other special care items to treat your skin's special needs. Once we hit our 50s, we get lucky enough to have sagging skin, deep lines and wrinkles and our skin becomes lackluster. You may want to try moisturizers and eye creams with illumination and firming benefits. Try some pigmented creams or serums with mica.
As an added step to your skin care, try exfoliation. This removes dead skin cells and stimulates cell renewal. A scrub, glycolic peel or microdermabrasion will help reduce fine lines and show your healthy, radiant skin underneath. Also, try drinking more water to promote softer, more wrinkle free skin.
