How to Keep Your New Infant from Peeing Through His Diaper..

Having a baby is so many things... exhausting, exhilarating, and entertaining to say the least. Having a little boy brings its own challenges, especially in the diapering area. From our first few days in the hospital I noticed the problem. The nurses and I kept changing my little guy every few hours with full clothing changes due to the fact he peed through his diaper. What I quickly figured out is that he wasn't actually peeing the diaper, he was missing it altogether. Due to the small size of his equipment in the first few months he would actually shoot up out of the diaper or out the side where there was a gap in the leg. I got so tired of changing him constantly and feeling like we couldn't even leave the house. I tried all the diaper brands and different ways to diaper but nothing seemed to work. Out of pure frustration one day I took some of the cotton balls from the changing table and lined them around his equipment with one on the front. This stopped the gaps around him and allowed the cotton to get wet first and then weigh down everything else inside the diaper so it didn't shoot out any gaps.

Miraculously this method worked wonders. When I changed him I had some wet cotton to remove but otherwise everything was contained and his clothes were dry. I even decided to test the theory a month later and sure enough I had wet clothes to contend with after an hour. We kept up with the cotton for probably four months and then the diapers fit tighter and the gap issues remedied themselves with a bigger tummy to hold the diaper tight as well.

My sister in law never had this issue with her daughter. I really think it's a "guy" thing and temporary at that, but it sure makes it easier when I can cut my laundry down 400% thanks to something as inexpensive and simple as cotton balls. Every time I see those fluffy white clouds now I remember my sweet newborn and how we changed a frustrating time to a dry and relaxing time in both our lives.
