School's out for the summer! While this vacation is greatly anticipated by young children and teens many parents remain at odds. It is easy for parents to feel a great sense of anxiety as summer approaches, because summer is the season that brings in potential chaos and unruliness. Idle kids often get themselves into trouble and kids that are busy usually remain trouble free. So as a parent it is important to keep your kids busy during the summer. Below are some great ways on how to keep your kids busy for the summer.

1. Have your kid apply for a summer job. Your kid does not need to be a teen to work. Kids as young as 6 and 7 can be given summer jobs. Look around your neighborhood and see if any (trustworthy) neighbors need help such as feeding their animals, planting or watering flowers, sweeping, wiping down surfaces, sorting etc.... You can pay your kid a small fee for doing the job. You can have your kid help out once or twice a week for an hour.

If your kid is of working age which is usually 14 or 15 they can apply to simple fast food jobs such as; McDonalds, Wendy's, Friendly's, or Chili's. Retail stores such as; The Gap, Wet Seal, Forever 21, Macy's, Bed Bath & Beyond, DKNY, Kohl's etc. Retail outlets are prone to hiring youth to work their stores and so your kid might be able to pull in full time hours which will allow them to stay off of the street.

2. Keep your kid busy by having him run weekly errands. Take a load off of your feet and have your kid run simple weekly errands for you such as mailing letters, small grocery shopping, or doing laundry. This will give your kid a sense of responsibility and will keep him from being bored. You might find that your kid comes to you looking for chores. You can even take your kid along with you for a few hours a week and after errands have been completed take your kid out for a small treat.

3. Summer Camp is a great option for children. When most parents hear summer camp they think overnight. If you do not feel comfortable sending your kid to overnight summer camp then you can opt for a full, five day camp. Camp can be costly but it's a great way to keep your child busy. They offer many activities at camp such as water sports, outdoor sports, art, and music. Some camps go on field trips. If you don't make much money, you can look into the community for camps that operate by a sliding fee scale.

4. If your kid has a particular hobby, sign them up for a summer program that relates to their interest. For instance, if your kid likes karate, sign him or her up for a karate program and if she likes drawing sign her up for a kid art class.

5. Summer makes great days for the beach. Pack a lunch, some sunscreen and plenty of water and frequent the beach at least three times a week. Invite your kid's friends over to spend the day with you all.

6. Volunteering is always an excellent way to keep busy. It is also a very gratifying experience. Volunteering does not have to be boring. There are many different places your child can volunteer at such as; animal shelters, hospitals, libraries, and soup kitchens. If your child is reliable, this will be an excellent field to get in.
