How to Keep Kids Entertained at the Wedding Reception

Michelle M. Guilbeau
There are so many aspects of a wedding that need to be considered and if you are planning on having kids attend the wedding reception, it is so important to have some kid friendly wedding ideas in mind.

Keeping kids busy and entertained during the wedding reception will help to make the evening run smoother, the bridal party and guests less stressed and the kids happy!

Here you will find suggestions for wedding entertainment that is kid friendly, not overly expensive and the little kids will love it.

#1: Wedding Coloring Pages

I know this may sound like such a simple idea but coloring pages really are a cheap and super easy way to keep the kids entertained at the wedding reception for a period of time. Print free wedding coloring pages from the internet and make numerous free wedding coloring books simply by stapling multiple pages together. Supply a small box of crayons with each wedding coloring book and you will have easy wedding entertainment for the kids.

#2: Craft Demonstrator/Teacher

This is an area where I have personal knowledge in as I own a company that supplies craft demonstrators/teachers for weddings. The craft demonstrator/teacher will bring enough craft kits and craft supplies so that each child at the wedding reception will have the opportunity to make a wedding related craft depending on the bride and groom's preference of crafts. A craft table and chairs are set up off to the side wall in the wedding reception or in an outside hall of the wedding reception and kids can come to the craft table at their leisure and make a craft. Kids absolutely love making a craft at the wedding reception plus they also have a little memento of the wedding to take home with them.

#3: Board Games, Cards and Puzzles

Have a table or open, out of the way place on the floor where kids can come to play board games, cards and/or puzzles. A great way to make sure everything is running smoothly in this kid entertainment area is to hire a young person or teenager to keep an eye on the little kids and maintain the area to make sure everything is running efficiently.

Allowing kids at the wedding requires a little more planning, but the effort is well worth the results of a well run kid friendly wedding. Most parents are happy to be able to bring their child to the wedding with them and if the child is having fun at the wedding, it makes for a spectacular night for everyone!

I actually read this article for me- I get so bored and fidgety at weddings I just want to not go at all...next time, I will at least take a book and try to read discreetly, but coloring would be far more fun...

I always liked asking the kids to dance. It was loads of fun. The funny thing is that it also attracted single women at weddings to me like bees to honey, and that wasn't even my intention!
