Touching is the biggest reason for spreading germs. Obviously touching someone or something that has germs on it is going to result in bad things, but you would be surprised at what your kids can pick up from touching specific parts of their own bodies. It's not always what they can pick up but how they can pick it up. As we know germs are everywhere and there are spots on your kids' bodies that can soak up the germs faster and more efficiently than others. Teach your children not to overly touch their nose or eyes as these are areas that can pick up germs and then be rapidly spread through the body. Tissues are an amazing tool.
Teach your children to use tissues, this is an obvious point but if you teach your children to use tissues at an early age they will be used to as they grow. Teaching them to use tissues when sneezing or coughing will not only protect them but also protect your home and in turn help keep you healthy.
Washing hands is a huge factor in keeping your kids healthy. Obviously we teach our children to wash after they use the bathroom but we should also put the same importance on hand washing throughout the day. After playing outside, after being at a friend's house, after being at school. It really is common sense, have your kids wash their hands and they will stay much healthier. Along with washing, don't let your kids share cups or eating utensils. Children don't care who used the cup last so it is your responsibility to make sure they don't share. When your kids are sick make sure you are washing cups and dishes more than usual, germs can stick around a long time.
Diet is a great way to keep your kids healthy. Fruits and vegetables are a great way to fight off germs and keep your kids from getting sick. Items with lots of vitamin C are the best ones for your children to eat. On the other hand foods that we all know are unhealthy can promote and prolong a cold or flu so keeping these items out of reach of children is a good idea.
Finally getting your children plenty of sleep will help substantially as well. They will have more energy to fight off germs and just be healthier in general. Having a right balance of activity and rest will help your Childs body keep itself healthy.
These are very simple and common sense ways to keep you and your children healthy, but they are rarely used. They are very easy steps to follow and could save you several weeks of misery over the course of a year. Catching the signs of a cold or flu at the very beginning is crucial and can usually shorten the length of a virus by 3-5 days. Follow these simple steps and you will keep your whole family healthier throughout the years.
