How to Keep the Kids Quiet and Yourself Sane when on Long Car Trips

If you are planning to bring the whole family for a holiday vacation, you should be prepared to haul the whole family inside the family car. Driving with your kids could be very stressful especially when you expect to be on the road some a few hours. You should be prepared to answer the question "are we there yet" every 15 minutes.

Since traffic would be unusually heavy and snow would be a bit heavy in some areas during the holiday season, you could be stuck on the road longer than you expected so be sure to keep your kids occupied if you do not want some screaming and fighting at the back of the car while you are driving. You should also make sure that before you set out for a long drive you have the weather forecast for the whole day to avoid being stuck somewhere. You can also turn on your car radio to monitor the weather just to make sure that you will be caught off guard when the weather suddenly changes.

How to keep your kids occupied

One of the best ways to keep your kids occupied is to bring along some toys for the little ones. Make sure to bring enough toys for everyone if you don't want them fighting over who gets to play the toys first. You may also bring along plenty of coloring books to keep your kids busy.

If your kids have been asking you to buy them a CD of their favorite cartoon show, buy that CD but do not let them watch it before the trip. Bring along a CD playing in the car so that your kids can watch the show while you are driving. If the show would last about an hour, at least you can have an hour of peaceful driving. If you can find more interesting CDs for your kids to watch during the trip, you can buy another couple of hours of peace in the car.

When your kids start to feel restless, it is time for you to stop the car and let them out for a while. Kids would normally feel restless if you confine then in tight spaces for a long time so let them out of the car let them stretch their legs. When you let your kids out of the car make sure that they put on some warm clothes. You do not want them catching colds so make sure that everyone is wearing their proper attire before they get out of the car.
