How to Keep Your Laptop Ventilated and Prevent Overheating

A lot of laptops may be packed with great features but the majority of laptops lack a major feature, ventilation. Depending on your make, a laptop can overheat long before a desktop computer would. With a minimal amount of space inside the laptop chassis, it is difficult to introduce a respectable amount of fans to keep ventilation at the maximum. Therefore it is very important to take precautions to ensure top ventilation for your laptop at all times. Proper ventilation will result in a longer life term and will produce less hardware problems in the long run.

The first step you can take to ensure ventilation is simply use air duster to clean out fans and air intake vents. It is easy to get these areas clogged with dust and other debris which hinder the fans capabilities.

The second step is to keep the laptop on a flat and even surface so the ventilation on the bottom isn't blocked. The number one reason for blocked ventilation on the bottom side of the laptop is due to the laptop being used on cloth surfaces such as pillows, blankets, and so on. These surfaces block the air flow required and contribute to overheating.

The third measure you can take to maximize your laptops cooling efficiency is consider investing in an laptop cooler pad. Laptop cooler pads are external USB powered fan that sit underneath your laptop and increase air flow and assist in keeping the unit cooled. These external laptop cooling pads can be found in any general electronics store such as Best Buy, Circuit City, and so on. If you are an online shopper, they can be easily found on Ebay or Amazon.

Laptop cooling pads are so far the best step you can take to ensure maximum life expectancy and performance from your laptop. The sheer ventilation provided by a laptop cooling pad is enough to avoid having to regularly clean out your laptop's intake vents. I still recommend cleaning your laptop regularly but if you are on a tight schedule, a cooling pad is perfect for you.

In conclusion, taking these precautions to ensure maximum ventilation and cooling efficiency in your laptop will surely increase the life span and save you an expensive trip to the computer store. Due to the cramped space in laptops and the constant demand for faster hardware, ventilation suffers and that is why it is key for a laptop owner to keep it well cooled.

We use a product called the Laptop Flip that we purchased at newpcgadgets. Our laptops run quite a bit cooler plus we can store them upright when not in use saving desktop space.
