How to Keep Your Legs Smooth and Soft

Keeping Your Legs Smooth and Silky Soft Even After You Shave or Wax

Having smooth, touchable legs is important for us ladies. Legs are a huge focal point when it comes to attention from others. We can't wear long pants all the time, so taking care of our legs and keeping them smooth and beautiful can be a time consuming task!

When you shave your legs, it's possible to experience bumps, rashes, and other irritation that can be caused by different things. Your razor might be dull or not cleaned well enough, or whatever you could be using as a razor buffer (shave cream or gel, soaps, etc.) could be irritating your skin. It's best to use things that have more natural ingredients and less things like fragrance and filler.

Before you shave your legs, plug your sink and fill it with warm water. Get half of a lemon or lime from the fridge and bring it in the bathroom with you. Lightly wet the skin on your lower legs (your calves and everything up to and around your knees), and then rub the halved lemon or lime all along your lower leg, as if you were using the lemon itself to get the hair off. What this does is lifts the hairs naturally, so they'll be easier to shave and less likely to become a bump or ingrown hair. This also firms your skin, making it less likely to nick or cut yourself with your razor. Once your legs are wet with citrus and water, apply your favorite shave buffer. (My favorite is milk and honey shave gels and shower gels, because both milk and honey have great moisturizing effects on your skin!)

When you shave, most women go from the bottom (just around your foot) to the top (around your knee), and use the same length strokes each time. A more effective way to shave is to use shorter, more precise strokes of your razor. This can also prevent you from slicing your delicate skin over the bones in your legs, which are one of the most difficult places to shave. When you're shaving around the area of your knee, diagonal strokes inward toward your knee are effective at getting those hairs you might otherwise miss or not entirely shave off.

Without hair on your legs, they will of course be much smoother...but far more susceptible to drying out and dehydrating. Using lotion directly after you shave can be dangerous, too - your pores will be open and your skin will be very sensitive, so lotions with harsh chemicals or perfumes in them can sting you and harm your skin. Using a lotion with natural ingredients, or simply wetting your legs again and using an after-shower oil is a much better idea!

If you wax your legs instead of shave, you can have just as many problems with irritated skin. Waxing can cause your skin to stay sensitive and irritated for hours, even days after you wax, making it hard to use lotions or put materials against your skin. To help newly waxed skin, use natural unaltered yogurt or whole milk on a soft tissue, and gently dab your legs softly all the way around.

The finishing touches on your smooth, silky legs should always be something that moisturizes and protects your skin. In a small spray bottle, mix almond oil (or coconut oil) with a small bit of water and cane sugar. Shake it to mix it, and spray lightly over your legs before you leave the house. This is particularly helpful and useful if you are wearing capri pants, shorts, or a bathing suit. Your legs will be shiny, touchably soft, and absolutely perfect! (You can also use rose water along with some extra virgin olive oil in a small spray bottle for the same effect.)

Keeping your legs looking their best is very important when you plan on showing them off all day. Have fun, and keep it natural!
