How to Keep Your Makeup Looking Fresh All Day

No matter what you have planned for the day or if you want to go out for the evening after work, having a fresh appearance will save time and effort so you don't have to reapply makeup multiple times throughout the day. The key to having makeup look fresh is to be minimal, but that doesn't mean you can't have the coverage you need.

Before applying foundation, moisturize the skin using a light lotion or serum. Serum, like Olay Body Age Transform Intensive UV Defense offers deep conditioning to the skin without the oily residue. Using a lightweight moisturizer will keep the skin from appearing dry and offer a subtle sheen to the skin for a fresh look.

Apply a primer to the face and eyes to prep it for cosmetics. Smashbox Cosmetics makes a well-known primer, but for a more affordable price Sephora sells primer, which works very similar. Primer for the face adds nutrients to the skin to temporarily smooth out fine lines, which allows foundation to glide over the skin for an airbrushed look. Eye primer helps eye shadow adhere to the lids for all-day application and prevents the shadow from creasing.

During warmer months, opt to keep makeup fresh by using a tinted moisturizer instead of a heavy foundation. Tinted moisturizer offers subtle coverage and moisturizes skin at the same time. Tinted concealer works just as well, evening out skin tone without the caked appearance.

For an airbrushed look, moisten the cosmetic sponge with water and then apply liquid foundation to the face. The water prevents too much foundation from soaking into the sponge, thus reducing the amount you put on the face. A moistened sponge also creates a dewy look when you apply foundation-perfect for a day look.

Instead of a heavy lipstick, try using a lip tint or gloss. COVERGIRL created the Outlast Lipstain which gives lips vibrant color without wearing down throughout the day. For a shimmering look, apply some gloss over the lip stain. Gloss is lightweight, and Maybelline Shine Sensational Lip Gloss offers the lips a subtle color without getting sticky.

To add definition to the face, use a creamy blush instead of a powder. Powder tends to look matte and is tricky for some to blend in. Cream blush is easy to apply, blend in and needs very little retouching. To add blush to the cheeks, suck them in and apply a small amount to the hollows of the cheeks. Blend the color into the skin and be sure to blend upwards into the hairline.

To keep makeup fresh throughout the day, always choose waterproof cosmetics to ensure they won't wear down.
