Makeup on oily skin will not sit still for long. Give a big hug, lean in for a smooch or bump into someone and you will leave a little bit of yourself behind. Makeup that slides off or moves around is not much help putting for your best face forward. Shifting makeup is not pretty and can increase your dry cleaning bill substantially. Do not let your face slide away - apply makeup that lasts, no matter how oily you truly are!
So how can you do it? How can you achieve a perfect, matte foundation without losing face? Follow these steps for keeping everything in its place:
Foam up with gel cleansers! A gel-based cleanser is better for oily skin than a thick, fatty cream cleanser. Go minimalist on the exfoliation beads. Exfoliating triggers oil producer. You should exfoliate once a week, but do it on an off day when makeup isn't required, at least for a few hours.
Don't skip the moisturizer. It seems like a no-brainer. You have oily skin, do you really need moisturizers? Well, yes and no. Skin that stays lubricated with natural oils could still need hydration help. Here's how it works: Your wash skin. Skin feels nice and dry. You skip moisturizer. Skin says, "Oh no, it's dry out here. Let's get to work." Welcome oily skin again.
Stop the flow of oil, somewhat, by providing the skin with an oil-free moisturizer. Skin will get moisturized without getting added oil.
Get friendly with an oil mattifier. An oil mattifier is an oil blocking product that places a barrier between the skin and your makeup. Mattifier is like a makeup shield. It controls oil production and holds everything in place. Unlike a face primer, an oil mattifier has a slight drying effect which is perfect for women with oily skin.
Sweep on mineral powders. Give up those cream to powder foundations. You'll have to go with some mineral action instead. Buy a kabuki brush and choose a quality mineral powder foundation. Look for one that's been milled hundreds of times for a fine finish. Swirl on the powder, starting at the forehead. Sweeping downwards from the forehead to the chin will make wrinkles less noticeable. Show off mineral eye shadows and cheek colors too for added oil control.
Just a few changes to your skin care and makeup application could prevent your makeup from sliding off. Keep a few blotting tissues handy for quick oil-control touch ups throughout your day.
