How to Keep Your Man

Tips for Getting Him to Stick Around

You finally met the man you've been waiting for. The relationship is new but things are getting off to a great start, but you've seen this before. Something always changes somewhere along the way and another one bites the dust. How do you keep him this time? Here are a few tips on how to get him to stick around.

Ask Questions

Even if you don't really care about the new rims on his car or his favorite football team, even if the thought of football makes you want to scream show some interest in it. If it is what he is interested in he would love to share it with you. Asking questions about something tells him that you are willing to expand your interests to share his. You don't have to become an expert, but let him know that you would like to be able to understand what interests him.

Let Him Teach You How to Do Something

Along the same lines of asking questions, letting him teach you how to do something is a bonding experience. He'll love feeling like he is the first to share something with you. Now he will be forever branded in your memory as the guy you were with when you learned how to __________ (fill in the blank). It's sort of like letting him mark his territory.

Give Him Room

In the beginning it's easy to spend every moment together. Things are new and exciting and everything else in life might take a back burner to your new man. He may even be encouraging all the time together, but shedding your own life too fast is a fatal mistake. Deliberately set up a girl's night out or a weekend trip away. If you don't condition yourself and him to have some time apart, then in the future when you need some "you time" it will feel like a betrayal. Not to mention that missing you a little bit will only make him that much more appreciative.

Include Him in an Important Decision

Men are problem solvers. If you have an important decision to make, get his input. He'll love feeling like you trust his opinion enough to ask. Just make sure it's important. Don't ask him six times what shirt you should wear, that's just annoying.

Get His Friend's Approval

Introducing you to his friends could be a deciding factor for him. Smile, say nice things, and try to joke around a little like one of the guys. Make it clear that you are not there to steal him away from them they'll approve of him. The nod of approval from the friends is a good sign that you'll have someone pulling for you if doubt sets in.

Be Yourself

Most important of all is be yourself. If he doesn't like who you are, then no tips or tricks will ever save this relationship. Don't play games or pretend to be something you're not. That's not a charade you can keep up forever and someday he will see the real you. Better to let him see you now, then in the futures when you've already put so much time into the relationship.
