Natural Ways to Clean Your Containers

The holidays are here and it is time to store all of those left-overs from all of the dinners that you have had. In this article I would like to share with you how to store your food in clean odor-free containers. Nothing is worse than going to your cupboard to store your favorite food and then to find that you only have containers that smell like onions. Today I am going to give you some natural ideas on how to remove those unwanted smells. All of these ideas are harmless and you can be worry-free the next time that you go to grab a container.

The first tip that I would like to share with you is an old secret. Many people do not realize the power of baking soda. Not only can you use it for tummy aches but it can also be used to bleach and remove odors from containers. What you will want to do is take a toothbrush and wet it. Dip your toothbrush in the baking soda and scrub your smelly container with the mixture. Continue to do this until the stains and odors are gone. When you have finished brushing the container rinse it hot water. The next step is to wash it just like you would normally with dish soap and hot water. Your smells and stains should be gone.

Another tip that can help to eliminate yucky smells from your containers can be to use lemon. Lemons smell so wonderful when they are cut up. Cut a lemon into wedges and place wedges into your container. The larger your container the more wedges you will need to ad. Place your lid on your container and let the container stand for several days. Depending on how bad your smell is it may take more time. Check your container after a few days to see the progress that it is making. If you are happy then your container is ready to be washed with dish soap and hot water.

Vinegar and water is another natural solution. Fill your container with a solution of vinegar and water. You will let this solution sit overnight. Check your container the next day. The vinegar should have overcome the smell of the prior odors. Once you are happy with the results you can wash the container with your regular dish soap and hot water. Be sure to rinse thoroughly so that the smell of the vinegar goes away.

Here is a very pleasant remedy to remove some unwanted smells from your containers. Take a few drops of vanilla and add hot water to it. Place it in your container. Place the container into your refrigerator and forget about it for about 3-4 days. After this amount of time open it up and your unwanted smell should be gone. Wash with dish soap and hot water and behold you should have a nice fresh container on your hands.

One last way that I can share with you that is known to remove odors but is not natural is to use a newspaper. Make sure that it only has black ink, no colored ink. Crumble up some newspaper and place it in your container. Close the lid. Let the container sit like this overnight. In the morning you should have a fresh container. Wash it with your dish soap and hot water.

Next time before you go to throw away your containers try some of these ideas first. They can save you a lot of money. Your containers should get many of years of usage this way. You won't have to go out and buy new containers or freezer bags for a while. They are natural and won't hurt you and your family. They will also save you a lot of frustration in the long run too. You won't have to worry about your new foods absorbing the old food smells.
