But before diving into discussion we need to define some key questions:
What defines frequent posting?
How many blog entries should you create on any given week?
How to create posts not only frequent but consistently good to have them read?
Why are frequent blog posts so important to me?
What defines frequent posting?
This one could be a rather broad as it directly depends on your audience. But still every blog follows same rule: you need to post enough to keep your readers interested. If your blog hasn't been updated in a month you have a slim chances of people remembering about you with so much competition freely available. Readers want to be sure that if they check your blog next week - they will find fresh and engaging content they expect from you.
How many blog entries should you create on any given week?
Answer to this question is directly tied to the previous and general purpose of your blog. Some general guidelines can still be specified but feel free to work out your own based on these recommendations. Posting once or twice a week on your personal blog will more then likely accomplish the task, unless you lead a very active life in your community and people expect more frequent updates from you. Business blog can get away with 2 posts a week but going with 4 will be a more preferred option. News and interests targeting blogs should never drop below 4 posts a week as they face the greatest competition and just staying on your readers radar will require frequent updates, much less have them read these posts.
One thing you have to be keenly aware of is quality of your posts. Creating frequent posts just for the sake of update will hurt you more then help you, as people will loose interest in subpar information. If you are faced with this predicament -" better create 2 good posts a week then 4 of poor quality.
How to create posts not only frequent but consistently good to have them read?
Quality is directly correlates to consistent pattern of writing. If you are like me and weren't born a natural writer, here are some helpful tips:
1. Write about a topic that interests you and have appropriate audience. Sometimes a simple aggregation of information from multiple news sites on a music topic will create rigid followers as you save people time to perform search of their own and conveniently present all info in one spot.
2. Think before you write. Plot out your idea and what you are trying to say in your post. Make your message clear and easy to understand while delivering your content. Summarize at the end of the post to create a finished touch.
3. Since you already know what you are writing about - pick the keywords for your article to satisfy the needs of your other big readers - search engines. Use free keyword research tools to find long tale keywords and integrate them in your post. People will not mind when these keywords tastefully integrated but SE will love you for that.
4. Once you started to write, don't limit yourself. Don't try to create a perfect post just write down your thoughts. Once finished, step away and re-read it later for clean up. Read it to someone in your family out loud - you will be amazed number of mistakes you can spot that way.
Why are frequent blog posts so important?
Blogs were design to be an informal media where people can share their thoughts and personal opinions. Your opinion combined with quality information is what will keep people coming back to it. The more personal your content will be the more success you achieve. But your opinion still has to directly relate to your readers interests, however controversial it is. You have to deliver frequent content of high quality to keep them reading and coming back.
Your second goal is to get natural traffic from search engines. Google loves Blogs and frequent posting ensures proper caching of your site. Sparkle your content with targeted keywords and you stand very good chance to be at the top of Google search for a new topic. Even a short-lived popularity and placement on front page of Google can lead to tremendous traffic results. And once you get the visitors, use your quality content to keep them coming back.
